I have an old graphire wacom and have been using it for years and not just for Pse I use in in Office word, emailing, etc.
I followed the advice here: if you want to really get familiar with the pen then put the mouse away and stay with the pen. I have used it so much that the rubbery casing at the bottom is looooooking pretty bad.

Well, I've had my Refurb Wacom Pen and Touch for a short while now and even though there is a learning curve on it I can already see advantages in using tools like the Clone Stamp, Healing Brush and the Eraser. It is very easy to maneuver the brush very close to a subject when enlarged to do the job...much easier than using the mouse and as a by-product, my right hand should in the long run stop hurting after developing a slight case of RMI. That's a plus!

I'm a little late in posting. I've used a Wacom table for several years now and wouldn't be without it. I do a lot of altering on my photos, as you can see in my gallery here. Making accurate selections and detail work would be a real headache for me without a Wacom tablet. It does have a learning curve but not a serious one. Good luck to you.
