Sharpening in Lightroom
In his Lightroom Tuesday post today, Heninger Fotografik mentioned this article by Mansurovs Photography on use of the sharpening options in Lightroom:
How to Properly Sharpen in Lightroom I thought some of you might be interested. (Could apply to Adobe Camera Raw too......)

Interesting read as I had just been reading Martin Evenings LR3 book on the subject and learning a lot I didn't know. I hadn't appreciated that the input/capture sharpening with the sliders in LR is critical because raw files haven't had the benefit of the in-camera you get if you shoot jpeg - raw data before processing is inherently a bit fuzzy regardless of how "sharp" your shot was.
I also hadn't appreciated that LR3 output sharpening uses PixelGenius Photokit Sharpener for printing and export although I've always had a problem deciding what settings to use as you can't see the result ahead of time so I usually do my exporting/printing in Photoshop although I should experiment and see if it really makes any difference. Glad it was of help/interest to you guys.
I have always been kind of hazy on how to sharpen, how much to sharpen, and when to sharpen. This helped me a lot. Tony, for export sharpening (for screen), I always use the standard setting but have never tested high or low to see if I can detect a difference. I really should run a test.
