Signature error in Module msvcr80.dll
As slightly edited version of a post I put on theh Adobe Elements forum, to which I have not yet had a reply:-
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/567159?tstart=30 Using PSE 7 under Windows Xp Service Pack 3. I was using the Editor and then decided to try the Demo of Elements+. On reopening the Editor I got a Signature error in Module msvcr80.dll version 8.0.50727.4053. As I also have PSE 5 on my system, which is still working correctly, I looked for its msvcr80.dll; found it with a version of 8.0.50727.42. Replaced the 8.0.50727.762 in: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Microsoft.VC80.CRT with Version 8.0.50727.42 On Opening the Editor the same Signature error. Note still reporting 8.0.50727.4053 NOT 8.0.50727.42 So reports 8.0.50727.4053 whether .42 or 762 installed - providing Editor is reading C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Microsoft.VC80.CRT for its msvcr80.dll. (I have searched for msvcr80.dll and only found the above path for PSE 7.0 but there is another, 4053, in C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1f......7 989 and also 762 and 3053 in C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_....... ) I did see a suggestion of using the msvcr80.dll from the Installation Disk; I have found this file on the disk. It has Version 8.0.50727.762 I have placed it in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Microsoft.VC80.CRT to no avail. Note the manifest file in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Microsoft.VC80.CRT is looking for version 8.0.50727.762. I wonder whether it is the file in C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_ .. that is the problem. The manifest file seems to be looking for the 762 version as part of the manifest file matches 762 the file in C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_.. but the error reports the 4053 version? I have used System restore to go back before adding Elements+ but no luck! Before I reinstall or even reformat can anyone please help? I note that the error report I could send to Microsoft still has mention of Elements+ even though I have restored my setup to before it was installed? Sorry for this being a bit complex. |

Google the .dll file...
and someone will tell you where to install. I Think I had this same problem with mscrt80.dll and put mine in WINDOWS/System32.
I do not have a msvcr80 in my system and I am running XP and have Elements+ also. Good luck

Perhaps I should have thought of this earlier.
Trashed Preferences and now seems to be working. |

Thanks for reporting and solving your Photoshop Elements 7 msvcr80.dll issue using the trashing the preferences troubleshooting. Today a Premiere Elements 7 user at another forum came up with the same msvcr80.dll message. I keep saying that problems may present with the same symptoms but have different causes. Nonetheless I passed on to her "what worked for you" in your Photoshop Elements 7 situation and am waiting to learn if it worked for her in her Premiere Elements 7 situation. Thanks for taking the time to report the problem and fix that worked for you. ATR |
