OK, Byron, thank you!

I now have a CD play only drive and also a CD play/write drive. I'd like to keep my CD play/write drive. If I replace the CD play only drive with a DVD player, will it also read CD drives so I can copy from that drive to my CD play/write drive?

Regards,

Paul

OK gang, I just figured out to add an avatar and a signature. I already posted this message in a forum with other folks having trouble uploading an avatar but thought I'd add it here under New Users... hope it's ok to repeat it, just thought it might add something more about what I do.

This is such an easy website to navigate, very well thought out and intuitive to use.

Here's my post from the other thread:

Thanks folks, for letting me try out my avatar here! The photo is one I use on my business cards, it's of a wrought-iron tree guard, at the base are recycled well-used horseshoes from neighboring ranches here in South Central Montana. It was taken in Billings, in a downtown revitalized historic district. I like to photographic historic sites and structures, as well as what I call "vernacular architecture".

This was actually a film photo taken with a 50 year old Rolleicord, and is a scan of a darkroom print. Am now moving more and more to digital photography.

It should work just that way - although modern "combo" drives will read/write both DVDs and CDs, so you could copy in the other direction, too.

Does your system have USB 2 ports? If so, then obtaining an external DVD-capable drive would add the capabilities you seek, without necessitating surgery on your system.

pobrestad: Yup, that's me!

Byron: Thanks for the tip... I rather like that idea of an external DVD drive. It would eliminate the "surgery" as you say... and I do have USB2 ports.
