Having failed to get PSE7 working with Windows 7, I had a look at Serif PhotoPlus, but found it lacked so many favorite features of PSE that I took the plunge yesterday and upgraded to PSE8.
One feature of PSE8 which I really like is the Recompose tool in the full editor.
For example, I took this rather dull image last month
Problem, too much sea and the kayak was just too small to be of interest.
So, I chose the new recompose tool and then selected the kayak and the cliffs for protection, and then grabbed the corner handle and just dragged the photo up and across until it looked right. Amazingly easy. Its not surprising the when I ticked the OK arrow, the computer churned away quite a while it did its thing - the processing involved here must be pretty formidable. The result was this (I'd already used levels and smart brush to brighten things up)
Adobe have provided a tutorial video on this process which is pretty good. Just bring down the Editor's help menu and choose "Video Tutorials".

PS - sorry the images are so large when you click on them. I'll resize them next time.
