I have some video files that won't play in Quicktime, but they play great in another program. Quicktime gives me an error that I don't have the required compressor/decompressor (codec) installed. Any suggestions? Can you use a different video player in elements?
I am using PSE 5. |

Hi Homemaker ..
I'm not really sure what you mean ... so you mean another player to View Video tutorials ?? If so then quite a lot of people here have switched over to VCL Media Player Wendy

I downloaded VCL Media Player, but do not know which one to use. I must have a dozen choices with (asf); (mlv); (mpeg), etc. and etc. Which one do I click on. Jean

Use the one that works the best. The worst that can happen is it either won't play, or play terrible. If so, try another player. You won't break anything by trying, I promise!

I would suggest that you download the free utility called gspot to try to identify the missing codec(s). http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/quick_start.html It is important to name the source and format of the video audio in question. The above mentioned utility should include information on the compression types (codecs) involved. Do you already have information on the source and format of your video? ATR |

Thanks everybody! So all the videos play in VLC from my Windows file explorer. When I go into elements though, only some of the files play. There are several that still show the broken movie clip icon.
I tried running gspot to see if it would find anything but no such luck. I don't understand why I can run them in file explorer but not in elements. Last edited by Homemaker5; November 5th, 2009 at 11:55 PM. |
