I've forgotten how to reset prefs.
Using PSE6 and my drop shadows won't work. I tried holding down CTRL ALT and SHIFT on restart, but that doesn't seem to have worked. Am I not doing it correctly?

That's right. They show up, just have no affect when I doubleclick on them.
Any help? *S* |

Mary,
How have you been? It has been a long time since we shared Photoshop Elements comments. I hope that I can help on this one. First, after you applied the Drop Shadow, what are you doing? Double clicking the drop shadow in the screen? And, what do you want to do? Adjust the Drop Shadow? Let us see if this targets the issue...once you have applied the Drop Shadow to the Image, you should see a blue fx at the far right of the image's layer in the Layers Palette. If you want to adjust this Drop Shadow, you double click the fx there which will open the Styles Settings dialog. You can adjust the Drop Shadow with the controls in the dialog OR with the Move Tool active and that dialog still open, in the screen click and drag the Drop Shadow. Hope that is what you needed. If not, we will go to plan B. ATR Last edited by ATR; October 31st, 2009 at 07:13 PM. |

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'm sorry to say I'm still having troubles with PSE6. I think at this point I'm forced to figure out how to re-install the program.
I just have to figure out how to save all those extras I've added along the way so as to put them back. *sigh* I wish I understood all this better. |

I believe I am on a transparent layer.
I've tried some of the other effects and they seem to be working, but the drop shadow doesn't show up. For instance, applying a bevel works, as does the faded photo option. But when I double click drop shadow, or drag and drop the drop shadow effect to my photo I don't see it applied. I have the fx icon showing up on the right side of the transparent layer in the palette. I don't understand. *S* |

I am having the same problem with the drop shadow not showing up, so I hope that someone can answer Mary's (and my question).
I have selected the layer, to which I added a clipping mask, and the layer is transparent. I then added the drop shadow. Does the transparency have something to do with why the shadow is not showing up even though the fx symbol shows on the layer after adding the (presently invisible) drop shadow? Thanks, Elizabeth |

Elizabeth ...
If the layer is clipped to another layer then that means that anything that is not the shape and size of the layer it is clipped to will not show up and that also mean the drop shadow. You need to add the drop shadow to the layer to which it is clipped ![]() Wendy
