Remove Video projects?

OK let's try this a different way. Do you know where the links to .prel files that appear in the Organizer 'task pane' are stored. If I could find them, maybe I can get rid of them. Earl Rosebery

When you open a Premiere Elements 8 project, you create a project file with the file extension of .prel. As you work on your project, other files can be generated, for example, preview files.

Assuming that you have not changed the default location for the Adobe Folder (My Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/8.0), they all end up in the Adobe Folder in the default location. There should be a project .prel file there for every project that you created as well as other project related files and an assortment of folders containing project related files.

Did you not delete the project .prel from the Adobe Folder along with the preview files et al.?

Are you telling me that you have done all that? Did I post the right picture for the Organizer "Task Pane" to which you are referring? If so, did you delete the thumbnails in that Organizer that you did not want to see? What happened?

Just an add on....from all the details that I have provided you so far, you should have been able to get rid of all traces (from anywhere) of the Premiere Elements 8 project .prel and associated files for all the Premiere Elements 8 projects that you created.

But from the sounds of it, we have been mis communicating somewhere. I am hoping that my previous post has done the job and hoping to hear that it did so.

But, since I want to be sure that you are passed this impasse, tonight I am going to create Photoshop Elements 8 as well as Premiere Elements 8 projects and then go about deleting any trace of them from the Premiere Elements Organizer, the Elements Organizer, and computer.

Then I will get back to you, and we can compare notes to make sure that you received the most appropriate answer for your specific question.

In Organizer, under 'Window', the first option is 'hide or show task pane'. Therefore I imagine that the right hand panel is called the task pane.

It contains 3 areas. Albums, video projects and keyword tags.

In the video projects area there are 3 links they have a blue screen overlaid with a yellow folder cover and the name of the project file ending with .prel These are the only remnants of the projects. I deleted everthing else in my documents/adobe/premiere elements/8.0 There doesn't seem to be any way to get rid of them. Highlighring them and clicking on the trash can does nothing. They must be buried in Adobe Organizer somewhere.

I am glad that you hang in there. I installed my Photoshop Elements 8 and Premiere Elements 8 tonight, first thing checked about your issue, and just now headed back to the thread to tell you of my progress.

One of my biggest problems was trying to find out where you were in the process...Premiere Elements 8 Organizer Window or Elements Organizer. What you posted last fits with what I found.

You are in the Elements Organizer, not the Premiere Elements 8 Organizer Window. The video listings in the "Album" area of the Elements Organizer appear to be a feature so that you can pick out the media that went into any specific project (seems similar to the Filter by: "Select Album" in the Premiere Elements 8 Organizer Window).

If I have created, say, 3 projects, and I deleted all 3 project .prels and their associated media, those project .prel listings in the Elements Organizer under "Video Projects" just do not disappear as you have found and I am finding.

I have gotten to the point that I can end up with one generic empty untitled.prel instead of three, but I have a few more rounds at it before I give by how to.

So, do not give up. Help is on the way.

From my explorations, it appears that the Video List in the Album Section of the Elements Organizer is populated only when Premiere Elements projects are opened. If you create a video, like a VCD (.wmv), just using Photoshop Elements 8, that video does not appear in that list. So,....

Bottom line is that you tried Premiere Elements 8 integrated with your Photoshop Element 8, do not want to go there anymore, and want to get rid of the listings for the Premiere Elements 8 projects (the .prel and its associated files already FULLY deleted).

Based on that bottom line
1. The easiest way, if all factors fall into place, is: Open Photoshop Elements 8 Organizer, File Menu/Catalog and create a new catalog. That whole video project category and any of its listings will not be in the new catalog. At this point you will have two catalogs created and can remove the original if you do not have a lot of photos organized and tagged there already. You also could have two catalogs created (no need to delete one) and just use one at a time.

2. But, if you stay with this one and only catalog that you have, right now the best that I can do is chop the list down from as many projects as you have deleted to one generic one. In this scenario, you would end up with the video project catagory shown in the Albums section, and this category would have one listing, namely, untitled.prel. To test this idea, I created 3 project prels in Premiere Elements 8 and then went about deleting all traces of them.
a. Then closed Premiere Elements 8.
b. My Documents/Adobe Folder/8.0 and deleted all Folders contents, the project file itself (.prel), and associated folders.
2. Opened Premiere Elements 8, File/Open Project and verified that the Open dialog did not show the projects that I deleted in My Documents. Hit cancel. Then File Menu/New/Project. Leave the name Untitled. After the project workspace opens, close it without saving it.

I have been up and down the Program Files and Application Data areas to try to find a spot to avoid all this "busy work". No luck. I will continue to look into this.

Did we come up with anything that is acceptable for you at the present time?

Yes thank you. I created a new catalog and deleted the old one. It was convenient as I imported a PDF slideshow and a WMF slideshow of some of the same photos. Thank you for all your time. Just curious, do you do this for yourself or for Adobe or for ?

I am so glad that the new catalog idea worked OK for you.

I purchased my first Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements versions back in 2005 and have upgraded over the years to yesterday Photoshop Elements 8 and Premiere Elements 8.

All this time I have been a user such as you, not financially or otherwise linked to Adobe or this web site. I am a PhD biochemist by training with a lot of hobbies/interests, including photo/video editing. When I started using these programs, I explored, experimented, and asked questions at these forums. Then it got to a point where I was answering more questions than I was asking. So, then the sharing as well as my continual learning from each question that I answered factored in.
