Snow

I would like to add realistic snow to a landscape. I would also like to be able to preserve some of the shadows from the original photo. Any ideas on how to add realistic snow cover? I have found the tutorial on adding a snow storm, but I want to add the snow covering the landscape as well.

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum. Wendy has a tutorial in the subscriber area on how to make snow, but I don't know of a tutorial for creating snow on the ground. I made winter scenes by copy and pasting snow from pictures I've copied from the internet, but more than likely someone will be along that can tell you how to do this in Elements and when they do, I will be sure to jot it down. Good luck. There is a Quick Time tutorial on how to make clouds, maybe that tutorial will work for snow, maybe we need to check that out.

Hi ...

Experiment with this:

Get the magic wand and click on a few areas of your image ... you are aiming to get the sort of selection I have in the top image.

Then create a new layer. Layer>New>Layer
and fill the selection with white... (you may need to blur it just a little).

You can then duplicate the snow layer and move it around your image ... erase parts that you don't need and build up snow in areas you want more ..

Hope this helps:

Wendy
I'll add a link to this in Wendy's Mini Tutorials just in case anyone else wants to try it out.

Wendy...never too late....I can think of some summer pictures that I took that could have snow added, just to hear my granddaughter say "Grandma there was no snow at the cottage in July & August, where did it come from in the picture" they would be totally blown away.
