I had to buy a new iMac running Mountain Lion. I am using Elements 10, but kept Elements 4 installed so that I could continue to use Bridge. It is now incompatible. I think I read that Elements 8 or 9 have versions of Bridge which will work with Mountain Lion. Does anyone know if it will work for me to purchase one of these older Elements programs for the Bridge Application? I am thinking about version 8 because I think it may be more stable than 9 on a Mac.

I lashed out and bought it because I think it is pretty good (last of the big spenders). You could probably achieve the same results by use of PSE or CS6 but on of some the edited shots I thought I had tweaked well, it could add something extra.
Maybe worth a look - 30 day demo available.
I'd be interested in any opinions.

I have been running OSX 10.4.11 for some years, and am perfectly happy with it, but Flickr's new thing, and some other sites are trying to force me into "Upgrading" and I can get "Snow Leopard" for 25 bucks and it's said I can do this "upgrade" OK, skipping the intermediate "Leopard".

SO - question - will I still be able to use my PSE8, and my Epson Printer & Scanner or will THEY need "Upgrades", too?

I use very few Mac applications - for instance, I do email on Yahoo, directly, as I regard "Outlook" as a real "PITA".

I have no need of WiFi or smartphones - if that would matter, just want to do my photos and email :D

Last time I "Upgraded" I had bought PSE 8, but the OS wouldn't let me load it until I paid for an "upgrade", which also messed some other things up, too - such as iTunes which took about a month to straighten out (by reverting to an older iTunes.

I need help bad.

I have begun using LR4 by reorganizing my folders and files after loading the PSE9 catalog. So far the file structure and changes are nice and easy.

I have ended up with 76 files/photos that LR4 tells me are missing. The thumbnails are there.

I have had no success in locating them. I have followed the help instructions in LR4. When I click on the missing file icon the small window comes up to me me where it was located. I clicked on locate and it can't find it.

I plugged in the backup external drive that I used with PSE9. However, when you click on the Locate button up comes the entire backup files. The problem is the photos files names don't show, only the code the backup system has assigned.

How do I search for only the photos/files that are missing without having to go through every thousands of photos on the backup drive?

Hello all-
May be a tired old topic but since I couldn't figure out exact answer, I will create this post. (newbie warning- so forgive technical stumblings)

I bought a Canon HV40 and shot some test footage in 24F (native 23.98).
When I first captured per the HDV preset I saw that the video footage was rushed along while the audio was true to the real time it was recorded in. (this was determined by running the camcorder alongside the imported footage.)
My research lead me to believe that my 23.98 frames we being loaded into 29.97 slots, thereby additively 'quickening' the footage. I tried to rectify by changing the preset to a DSLR 1080p 24 setting (and recapturing) to see if timebase would accurately capture and play the footage. It was still fast. When I tabbed onto a clip and looked at properties, it showed frame rate of 29.97 (even though the 'new project' was set at 23.98). I don't plan on using the audio, so if I can slow the footage down to 80%, it would likely look ok, but in general I want to know how to remedy this for future use (providing I ever use 24F again). I've read about an Adobe download (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...jsp?ftpID=3408) that could work? Am I missing something basic here? any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

This week's tutorial is from Marty at Bluelightningtv. This combines the use of text to define a person with a displacement map which adds a nice definition to the face.

Although it is written for Photoshop everything can easily be done in PSE. The Text tool is somewhat different in PSE. Don't worry about "Smooth" (this works without it) or the Character menu. Leading, which affects the spacing, is part of the text tool. Experiment until the text looks the way you like it.

New here. New to PE11. Hi. Hope I'm in the right place. :)

I opened PE11 and clicked on "Create" .. selected "Slide Show." Slide Show preferences opens. OK. New window. Clicked on "Add Media" and selected "photos and video from folder." New window .. selected desired photos .. Open. Files are now showing as thumbnails across bottom of Slide Show window. Good.

This is where I'm confused. My photos that I selected, were named 000 through 081 when I edited them so they would be in a very specific order. But they imported in some random order.

To the right, just above the "timeline" with the thumbnails is "Slide Order: Custom" The only options in there besides custom, are by date, random .. but nothing by "name." Do I need to try and drag all these to the place I wante them or is there some reasonable way to do this?

This project is for someone I know (for a wedding) and THEY determined the order. That's fine; that's normal .. but none of these thumbnails on the "timeline" are showing the file names! aaaahhhggg .. I don't want to try and guess where they go.

Thanks for any thoughts on this ..

There is a current post about free plugin's and I reside in the dark when it come's to most of this computer stuff. I really didn't know much about it so I asked one of my daughter's who is pretty knowledgeable. Here's what she wrote back. Some of you may be interested in this explanation or can add to or correct it.

What they all have in common: they are all software code. But, what they can do is very different. So I will try to layout the general differences:

Plugins are “libraries” made by third parties (usually companies) that are “plugged into” programs like browsers. Plugins cannot work by themselves but they can enhance the ability of other programs. Common plugins for browsers include: Macromedia Flash or Shockwave, Adobe Reader, and Apple Quicktime. Plugins work based on file types like pdf but they do not create toolbars.

Extensions create toolbars in the browser. They don’t read files and do things with the files like plugins do. They affect the browser function for all pages (you see it at the top all the time when the browser is open) whereas plugins only affect the page requested (Adobe Reader only reads a pdf for you using the browser). Extensions can contain plugins but plugins cannot contain extensions.

App is a shortname for applications. An application is a software program that can “stand alone” or work by itself without any other program needed. Common applications are Word, Excel, and Photoshop. With the development of new devices like smartphones and tablets, people have created smaller programs that can work with them and called them apps for short. Apps can be free or cost 99 cents and up. Since apps have limited function (small programs), they typically sell for under 5 dollars each copy. Most apps are games but some are handy tools like metric conversion programs or woodworker reference programs.

Apple has an online Store for people to get apps for iPhone and iPad devices. Google has an online Store for people to get apps for its Android phones and tablet devices. Microsoft has an online Store for people to get apps for Windows Phone and Windows 8 devices. Microsoft is the ONLY company that makes an operating system that works the same on all devices (phones, tablets, and PC’s). This is called Windows 8 Pro and there is an update coming out called Blue or Windows 8.1 later this year that makes it easier to use than Windows 7.

In a nutshell, you have been using plugins and extensions for many years on your computer. Apps are new and sometimes serve similar functions, i.e. Adobe wrote an app so that people who have smartphones can read pdf files on their phone. Software programmers of operating systems, browsers, plugins, extensions, applications, and apps have to adapt their products so that they work on any device as technology evolves. The three major players: Apple, Microsoft, and Google share the most of the market for computer and phone devices. Research in Motion who makes Blackberry devices are struggling to keep a marketshare and develop apps for their smartphones.

Until you get a device (smartphone or tablet) that uses apps, you won’t be able to use them. You are already using applications, plugins, and extensions on your computers.
