How to reinstall PSE8 after hard drive crash?

Apologies as this is a restatement of a problem previously posted on Adobe forums without response; just found this forum. Thanks.

Summary: how...

Apologies as this is a restatement of a problem previously posted on Adobe forums without response; just found this forum. Thanks.

Summary: how to get catalog to see pictures when letter of of target drive has been changed.

C Drive irreparably crashed. The PSE8 catalog folder was in C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Adobe, etc. and was backed up on a different drive (Yay Me!). The Pictures were in E:\ Elements Pictures\ (117 GB). When Windows was reinstalled, the Drive Letters were changed by the reinstall program, such that the Windows boot drive is now the E drive and the Pictures are on the D: drive, but still in their original folder. (Ultimately, the plan to get a new Drive, rename it C, and reinstall Windows on it.)

It appears that I cannot use "Backup and Restore" as is the common response to "How do I move Elements and Pictures to a new Computer?"

I can reinstall PSE8 on my E (boot) drive, then replace the new catalog folder with the old one which has my data. How do I then get that catalog to look to the Pictures on the drive which has a new letter (D)? I cannot reinstate the old drive letter, as that letter is now in use as the boot drive letter.

Am I better off just waiting for the new C drive, reinstalling Windows there, replacing the catalog folder, and relettering the Pictures drive to its old Letter? It may be awhile before I get the new C drive as I am waiting for Seagate to replace under warranty the dead drive, and would like to if at all possible continue to use PSE8 in the interim.

Many Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi there, hope you can help...

I record footage in SD on my Canon EOS 7d, this exports a .mov file using H264 I think that has pixel dimensions of 640x480 at 50fps.

In Premiere Elements 8 (PE8) I use a one of the SD presets but don't seem to be able to choose a particular pixel ratio.

It also doesn't let me choose 640x480 as a pixel size but defaults to 720x576, this means that PE8 upscales my video to fit the screen, which I presume will have a slight effect on the quality of the video.

When I import the video into my PE8 project the video has slight black bars on the left and right just about 5 pixels each side I would guess. I presume this is to do with pixel shape or size. it is nearly OK, but then when I export the video as a Flash file (in order to show on an Intranet site over LAN) the black bars show within the flash player.

If I use the crop effect and get it to fit in the screen OK. I just crop the top and botton very slightly and choose zoom. (Having unclicked the auto scale option in the timeline). This works OK except that I often need to put a static title bar in the bottom third of the page and when I use the crop option to resize my video then although PE8 shows the title coming to the bottom of the screen, when it is encoded as flash the title bar is lifted up about 5 pixels from the bottom of the screen!

Does anyone have any tips as to how to work around this. I don't really want to record at HD as it is overkill for the projects I am doing. Ideally I would like to work in PE8 at 640x480 and have my EOS7d .mov files fill the whole screen.
Thanks in advance...

I'm thinking of switching from Creative Memories scrapbooking software to PSE7. However I have tons of questions. I've been a PSE user for many years, but for some reason began my digi scrapping with CM. It's not a bad little program, but it's cumbersom editing my photos in PSE and then making my book in CM. Anyway, some of my questions are:
1. Can I view and work on a 2 page layout.
2. How do I print the book once it's finished.
3. Do I bring all my photos and elements in at once and then proceed with the book.

Hope someone can give me a little advice.

OK, I will admit that, along with the histogram, I do use the screen to check my shots. I recently was in an Iowa corn field on a really bright sunny day (I also know this is not the best time to shoot, but it couldn't be helped) taking pictures of the spot where Buddy Holly's plane went down. I literally could not see anything on the screen, even when I was in the "shade" of the corn. I am going on a trip to London and Paris soon and, again, may find myself in bright daylight situations (OK, maybe not in London). I have done a little research on the internet and come up with two names -- Delkin and Hoodman which make little popup screen shades. Waste of money ?? -- do they work??? Anyone had any experience with these? Thanks.

I always like a good sketch effect so here's another easy one.

Create a Beautiful Illustrated Sketch

Needless to say it's written for Photoshop but is easily modified to work with Elements. I only took it to Step 3 - what you do after that, if anything, is up to you.

As always the actual settings for the filters will likely depend some on the pixel dimensions of the image you start with and the effect you want but the ones given work fine for the size of the image in the tutorial.

The only change I had to make for Elements was Step 1 as Elements doesn't have Fade. So here are the steps I used:

1. Duplicate your pic we have layer 1 . Press Ctrl+U to to bring up hue/saturation and move the saturation slider down to -80

2. Press Ctrl+J to duplicate layer 1 we get layer 1 copy. Ctrl+I to invert it, then set this layer to Color Dodge 100%. Choose Filter-Other-Minimum. Choose layer 1, lower opacity to around 50% depending on your pic.

3. With the top layer selected Ctrl+Shift+Alt+E to get a new layer (Stamp Visible). Apply Filter-Blur-Surface blur. Set this layer to Multipy 100%. Duplicate it and lower opacity to 50% .For darker images you can try other blend modes but multiply worked for me.

Here's a screen shot of the layers I finished up with and some details on what was done with each layer. Refer to the tutorial link above for the filter settings used or just play around with different ones.

And you don't need a pretty face to do it with either. Times Square works too!

As always have fun and experiment!

Hi, hope someone can suggest a fix!

Running a shop bought PE8 on a highly specced Windows 7 PC. Just updated to raw 6.2 which supports my new camera (Sony NEX-5). I was careful to upload the PSE version and replaced the current raw file with the new one. I removed all other raw files in the adobe directories so that it is the only raw plug in there. I ignored the 64 bit version.

Editor opens the raw files with no problem. Organisor tells me that the raw file is an unsupported type.

So far I've tried pretty much everything I can think of to remedy. I've even uninstalled PE8 and removed all plugins and started fresh. Without opening PE8 I deleted the raw plugin and replaced it with the new - so PE8 hadn't even seen the earlier version. It still insists in organisor that the raw files are unsuported. I've tried opening in compatibility mode and still no joy.

I'd appreciate any ideas on what else I can try.

Thanks.

Jeff

How do I, from my JPEG out of camera (D300S) crop or just resize whilst maintaining the highest quality for lab printing.
I want to print to 9x6 inches. Do I just use custom and input height and width and leave resolution blank. If I am not going to crop to I just resize and do the same by selecting 9x6 inches. I have done this but noticed that the resolution increases to 437,411 ???
