Mike, you are probably the one to answer this. I scanned a BUNCH of photo's into the organizer and onto my hard drive. They went into my pictures, no folder. I decided to make a folder called Scans 05 and copied them all to that so that I could put them on a CD. Of course this was all done while I was on the hard drive (windows). NOW, I would like to make the scans 05 folder the link to the organizer. Any way this can be done? No problem if not because the pictures are still just sitting in the my pictures files and I can access them but would like to clear them off the disk if possible.

By the way, when I was in Borders last weekend there was a book strictly for the organizer. Can't remember the name though.

Pat,

Just use Get Photos > From Files & Folders. This will bring up a window the "Get Photos From Files and Folders" window. Locate your folder Scans 05 in the "Look In" window.

Highlight the pictures you want to bring over (if you have a lot just select first one, hold shift and then select the last one - this will choose them all). Click Get Photos and Organizer will load them.

If you are going to use this Scans 05 folder again, you can add it to the "Watch Folders" list (Go to Edit > Watch Folders). Each time you start Organizer, any folder(s) you have chosen to watch will be checked for new files. You can choose whether to be notified of new files before adding them to Organizer or just add them automatically. One thing to remember, it only detects new files, so you need to add the folder to the Watch Folders list before saving files. If you add an existing folder Organizer won't detect files that are aleady there.

Just so I understand. I get the photos from Scans 05 and then I can delete the ones from my pictures? I just don't want to break the links. I do have them on a CD so it's not like I have to go hunt them up and rescan them. Scans 05 is a watched folder so I don't have a problem with that from now on. I just forgot to browse when I scanned in and so they just went into the my pictures section of the hard drive and for purposes of access I created a new folder and copied them into it.

Pat,

If they are alraedy in Organizer then highlight the photos in Organizer and use File > Move to move them from My Pictures into Scans 05...

OK. That is the command I was missing and looking for. I figured there must be a way to do this rather than reloading everything. Will try right now. Thanks,

Well I have moved all the files from my pictures to scan 05 which now has 2 of the same picture. Wonder if I can delete one and which one I can delete. Any suggestions (merely a space consideration - no big deal). I think I'll go see if the properties tell me which is the most recent as that is probably the link.

Pat,

Did you do both things then...?

If you are going to delete one version, you can use File > Delete Selected Items From Catalog. It will also give you the option to delete them from the hard drive.

Hi Mike,
Here is what I did for future information to anyone else who might run into this problem.

1- I scanned in photo's and forgot to create a new scan folder so they went into a general my picutures spot on the hard drive outisde of all folders.

2 - When I caught the error I went into the hard drive, created a new folder for the scans and copied all the photo's that were in the general area into the new scan folder. I realized then that this new folder was NOT the link that had been set up in organizer.

3 - Per your help I went to each photo in the organizer and moved it (through the organizer program) into the new scan folder. This effectively established the link to that folder but now there were 2 copies of all photos in the scan folder.

4 - I went into the scan folder, looked at the properties of each photo, saved the one dated the day of the move from organizer and deleted the one dated on the day I copied from the hard drive (step 2 above).

5 - I then went back to organizer and checked that each photo was linked by taking them into the auto quick fix mode which would not have been able to open them if there were no link.

After doing all this I realized that I could have easily emptied the scan folder (deleted all pictures) PRIOR to going into the organizer and executing the move command. That would have saved me steps 4 and 5.

Anyway, it is done, pictures are saved in folder, link has been re-established to correct place and I still love the organizer for quickly finding what I need without a lot of browsing. I just wish they would come up with documentation on this stuff. No wonder no one is wanting to use it. It can be very confusing and isn't the easy 1, 2, 3 the manual(?) that comes with PSE3 alludes to.
