Well here's the flag I've been working on and chatting about in the Photoshop Elements 5.0 forum. I thought I would move it here.

I've posted 3 versions of the file because the detail is lost as I shrink the image. Following Bert Monroy's advice I have worked on a huge file and then shrunk it. The original is 145MB in size. The three here allow you to see the detail in various states. I haven't worked on the flag pole, attachments, eye bolts, etc. This is just the flag. Took me about 3 hours to get to this state from where it was before. Total time 7-8 hours. I can see this going faster with experience. I need to clean up the edges. I'll work on that next.

Suggestions and constructive criticism is welcome at this stage before I move on to the pole.

Brice- Good job! You've really added a lot of good detail- the texture and the thickness... Did you tell us what the whole scene is going to be or is that a surprise?

Brice ...

That is just great ... you have done an excellent job on the flag. Its not easy and it take a lot of time but its well worth all the effort you have put into it.

Its impressive ... and looks pretty perfect to me :)

Woo hoo! My enormous head is getting bigger. Still needs work, but it's better.

The whole scene will evolve. I have no idea what will happen. I'm starting only with a flag. That could evolve into almost anything with an "Open" flag... It may wind up only being a flag on a pole or someting more...

I have a real job after all...

Thanks Paul, Kayser, and Wendy. I appreciate the input. Wendy, your ideas from the other thread were very helpful. I also found making it super size really helps one add details.

Brice, I so agree with PaulH. You've done a terrific job on this. I must have missed it in the other thread.....I don't read all threads.

Brice,

What's with the cracks in the lettering. You just got this flag yesterday and you're already wearing it out?

Nice job! It's looking very real.

Is there a elements version 5.0 out there somewhere?

People keep "fishing" for information about v5, but nobody knows anything, and the rumors seem to simply be feeding themselves.

So, to answer your question.... no.

Thank you. I was confused when the person who did the flag said something about 5.0. I have been using Elements 3 and have put off upgrading to 4 because of the expense and because it does not seem all that different - except for the new selections tools - to warrant the expense. So I was waiting for 5.

Debiw, Sorry about that. There was a post made in another forum about PSE 5.0 rumors. No detail. All speculation at this point. I started talking about what I was doing with a flag I was trying to create from scratch there and moved the flag here so it could have it's own place.

The flag has no correlation to PSE 5.0, which doesn't exist, but is probably in some stage of development at Adobe.

If you have PSE3 and might go to a new version of PSE I would think I'd wait at this point as the history of Adobe is to release a new version every 12-18 months. Sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. There is nothing earth shatteringly special in PSE4 that you can't get via free plug in or simulate other ways. I'd wait to see what PSE5 looks like when/if it comes out or save your pennies for PSCS2, PSE's big brother.

Brice,

I just went back and reminded myself of the original flag you did on the Elements 5 thread. Wow! You've really worked hard on it, I'm really impressed on how much more real it looks.....and I was impressed when you first posted! Looking forward to seeing how this progresses....
