PSE3 Filter Preview Windows Blank and no Effect

Odd problem - everything else seems to work OK, but on some pictures when I open a filter like Unsharp Mask or Gaussian Blur, the preview window is blank (totally white) and the filter has no effect at any setting. Clicking "preview" on and off has no effect. Has anyone seen this or have a solution to try? Thank you!!

Just a guess, but maybe your preview is of a white spot on the canvas or you are actually filtering a different layer. I do it all the time, but I now know to check for that. Hit the "-" button below the preview a few times to shrink the image this may help.:)

I do this all the time by mistake with layered files - it has to be on an image layer for the filter to work - my usual one is to try and apply the unsharp mask to a levels adjustment layer. Easy to do because the last thing you want to do is apply the unsharp mask.

Argh! You are both right - I was probably working on an adjustment layer. When I click on an image layer the filters work. Thank you so much!!!!
