Hi gang,

Is there a limit in the amount of layers Elements 3 can make ?

I'm colorizing an old B&W picture using the technique explained in Scott Kelly's book, page 332, and right now I have 4 different layers + background and I'm trying to create others, but after making my selection with the magnetic lasso tool, I get the message "Could not make a new layer from the selection because no pixels are selected." even though I can see the I've completed my selection . I don't understand what I'm not doing this time since its been going great up to now, and I wonder if I've forgot to do something :) As you can see, I'm a newbie .

Thanks for your help.

Generally you get this message when you are on an empty ( transparent ) layer so if you are trying to make a new layer via copy you'll get that message. Be sure your lasso selection is on the layer that has actual pixels on it.

Now that is something most of us have done at sometime or another ...

Take a look in your layers palette and I'm certain that you will find you are on the wrong layer. Usually you will find that the selection you have made is on a tranparent part of another layer.

Jody, Wendy...

As soon as I had finished submitting my message, I went back at it and as you both mentioned, I was working on an empty layer ... d'Ho !

Came back here to say not to worry, but you were so quick in replying ...

Thanks a bunch.

PS: I guess there are no limits to the amount of layers one can have ?

:D

the limit is like 9,999 or something like that.

Glad you got it sorted :)
