I am completely new to elements. Evidently, somewhere here in the beginning I hit the wrong button. In going to standard edit, the active image window jumps to having no caption or vertical or horizontal slides. It makes it impossible to do the activities in the first lesson of layers training. What do I do? Help!!!

Ronell,

It sounds like you are in Maximized mode... on the menu, try clicking Window > Images... then choosing Tile or Cascade.

Thank you ever so much. That was the problem. I guess old geezers like my husband and I (the ron and nell) shouldn't even be trying this stuff. Be we are certainly appreciative of any help.

Nell,

Saw your comments and had to respond.

It is an awesome experience getting to know Elements. It will all fall into place for you. So, do not give up. Suggestions: check Help, ask questions in the Forum, go through the tutorials and videos in the Subscribers' Section, also check out Photoshop Radio on this web site for tips, keep exploring, training, learning. I have Elements 3.0 and it came with some tutorials in the program. Check out your Elements to see if they are in your program.

You will discover, if you have not already, that there is more than one way to achieve a given effect.

Good luck.

Thank you...I guess old geezers like my husband and I...shouldn't even be trying this stuffNell,

You are most welcome... now cut out that crazy talk about not trying stuff!!:p

Get in there and try all of the features, filters, styles -- you name it. You learn this stuff by playing with it, and you can't hurt anything as long as you are working on a copy of your original image.

Hope to hear more from you and Ron as you learn more and come up with more questions.

Thank you for the encouragement and we will keep trying. So far there has been as much enjoyment as frustration, so it all comes out evenly in the end.

What ever you do don't quit !

Photoshop is the least intuitive program I have ever seen, however
once the light starts to show thru it is the best photo handling program ever.

The people on the forum are the best and are always willing to help.

As a suggestion look at the members page with the videos and try to follow
the examples ... pick one project and try to stick with it until you understand it. With practice you will build a base for the next project...

It's like learning the piano...practice...practice

Good luck Tom..:D
