Here is a short, 2:30 minute video version of the directions (message #10) (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8299&highlight=pixentral+thumbnail)TonyW posted a few weeks ago on how to get a thumbnail in your posts using www.pixentral.com (http://www.pixentral.com). I thought it might help to see it.

It's about 2-3 MB. I made it as small as I could and still be mostly visible. :)

I hope it helps. I made it pretty quick, so it sure isn't Oscar Quality.

Here is my post

I figured out what I did wrong. Seeing does make it much easier. I was going to the beginning of the little box that we highlighted the image from and taking that and inserting that into the link box. I didn't go all the way up to what the web browser said and highlight that. When I did that, it works. Very clear! Tomorrow, I hope I don't forget, but I wrote it down, although I did that before.....:o ! Hopefully I will remember.....

Thanks Mike! Good Work...and again Thanks to Tony W for his original patience with me!

I am definitely a visual learner when it comes to this stuff. The only problem is that I can't seem to get the link into the thumbnail??? I did exactly what the video descirbed but as I'm typing this I also don't see an image. I only see the image when I click on 'Preview Post'.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Testing......Bit more complicated than Imageshack, and fine when I'm not having freezing problems with Pixentral!

Thanks Mike for doing the video.

Bayla

PS Anyway of making the thumbnail smaller?

Bayla
May 26th, 2006, 06:59 AM
Mel,

You have to actually click on your thumbnail to select it before pasting the link. If you click next to it then this is what happens:

http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1tokPP6iOt58rpDKXVNTZ3vIgRME9R_thumb.jpghttp://http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1tokPP6iOt58rpDKXVNTZ3vIgRME9R

Then the thumbnail itself isn't clickable.

When loading onto Pixentral there's a little box next to the 'send' button that says - Make this picture public. Do I have to check this box. I didn't do this before so maybe that is the reason why I couldn't get the link to go into the thumnail, or maybe not

Well that didn't work at all :(

I just can't seem to get the image into this area where I'm typing now. I watched the video again and it still didn't work. I must be missing something very simple :o

When I click on the -insert image- button and I paste what I copied from pixentral (just like in the video) and then click OK.......all I get to see then is the link and not the image???

Any idea on what I might be doing wrong?

Mel,

Which link are you copy & pasting?

Bayla

The one underneath the picture.....right after the src="
I follow the same steps as in the video. I keep pausing the video to make sure I carry out the exact same steps ;)

After I have done this I click on the Insert Image button here and then past the link. When I've done that I go back to Pixentral and copy the link in the adres bar and then come back here and click on the Insert Link button and then paste that link.

Mel:

I just sent you a PM about 5 minutes ago. Here is what I pasted in it.

Try this.....I tried to write this up yesterday for Norm in a different thread. I have been struggling with this for months so believe me it is not just you!

what I have done is click that bottom part on pixentral - the part between the " and " it then appears [img........whatever......img] once you paste it into the insert image box. Part of that [img........whatever......img] remains highlighted in blue right? but not the WHOLE thing right? Ok, Now go back to pixentral an highlight the web address from the BROWERS. Ctrl-C. Go back to your post. Highlight the ENTIRE [img........whatever......img]....the WHOLE thing from [ to ] Then click on insert image and paste the address you got from the pixentral web browser.

Please see if it will work for you now. My problem right up until today was that I didn't highlight the entire [img........whatever......img], and unless I did that I just got text showing up not the picture at all.

BTW, I love your avatar. It is really beautiful! Love the softness of the colors, the colors themselves and the kaliediscope (sp)

Just went back to take a look at your gallery. What an awesome picture of that blue bird! Wow! He looks really angry! He cracked me up! All of your pictures are just wonderful. You do some really beautiful work! Post some of them using the clickable image! It will give you some practice!

I also like your quote very much!

For the technically minded the problem with Pixcentral is that it provides the HTML code for websites but it doesn't work on this forum so the only way at present is to do it yourself by inserting the thumbnail as an image and then linking the thumbnail image to the hosted image. The code that's needed is:

{URL=http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=15ymDdTWIZxTMA3XWkbC18UMKpQo}{IMG }http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/15ymDdTWIZxTMA3XWkbC18UMKpQo_thumb.jpg{/IMG}{/URL}

Note to make this work you'd need to replace the {} brackets with [] - I had to change them to make the code show rather than the result.

Which gives this:

http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/15ymDdTWIZxTMA3XWkbC18UMKpQo_thumb.jpg (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=15ymDdTWIZxTMA3XWkbC18UMKpQo)

I'll send a note to Pixentral to see if we could get the code added so you could just copy and paste it as I do prefer Pixentral to other hosting sites.

Sorry - I should have started the post by saying don't bother to read if you don't computer-speak ;)

Bottom line is that I just sent a note to Carlo at Pixentral to ask him if he could add the forum code for clickable thumbnails to his site so all you would have to do is copy and paste it.

Tony

PS Should have also said I had to do the computer-speak thing to make sure what I was asking for would work. Call it "thinking out loud"

I got a very quick reply from Carlo at Pixentral. He said it sounds like a simple addition and will try and get it added ASAP. Incidentally he mentioned that he's working on a complete overhaul of the site (when his real paying job allows) so if anyone has any more recommendations he'd be pleased to hear from you.

Tony, thanks for taking the intiative on this.
Do you know what kind of costs he incurs on this "hobby"? I know he takes donations. I know any amount would be appreciated, but what is the standard in these cases?

TonyW
May 26th, 2006, 06:13 PM
Ward: I don't have any idea what the standard amount is but I do know that anything is appreciated. If you recall a year or so ago Carlo had his apartment broken into and had his equipment stolen but managed to get the site back up again and running pretty quickly. It's very much a one man show and he does it for love not money but every little contribution helps (and helps keep it pop-up free)
