I just got an email telling me that my Sony DSC-H5, which has been on order now for about 6 weeks, shipped yesterday and is out for delivery today! It's supposed to be here by 3:00, so you can bet I'll NOT be leaving the house!
Now I have to go purchase the memory card and a filter to protect the lens.
YIPEE! That means I have plenty of time to practice with it before our June trip to Alaska. :D :D :D :D

I hope Kay (kayser) reads this thread, because I'm soooo curious about whether you have gotten your Canon S3 IS yet??? I can't wait to do some comparisons, because I debated forever between these two cameras. I know you'll love that one, too.
I'm still waiting for the FedEx man!

I may soon get me a new camera. I saw a "Sony R1" for about 7000 danish coins. But it was a bit clumsy and I couldn't use other lens than the build in. Nikon d70s has to few pixels, so maybe I should get me a Nikon d200.
The only problem with the d200 is it cost 12000 danish coins.
Should I get a Canon instead ?

Linda- I'm so glad yours is going to arrive before your trip- that's great news! I was thinking I was going to have to wait for mine until after May 31st--the original release date-- but it's now for sale on Amazon.com and other places, so I'm hoping that mystery box that arrived for my husband earlier this week contained my camera!! I'll find out this weekend...

Thanks, Carol. I got it at about 2:30 this afternoon, and have only had maybe an hour since then that I could devote to it. I took a few snapshots out in the back yard -- did some indoor ones tonight (of such exciting things as tables, book cases, coasters, and plants ;) ). Maybe tomorrow I can take some of something worthwhile. Anyway -- all turned out beautiful. I REALLY can see a difference in quality from my little old Olympus. I'm happy.

Not bragging on these pictures at all, but what I was trying to see is how well the image stabilization works with the H5. The first picture was snapped not using zoom (at wide angle), and the second one was snapped at 12x, standing in the same spot (both just Auto mode; no editing). I didn't use a tripod, or have anything to lean against, so I think the IS did pretty well, considering I'm NOT a very steady shooter. I haven't had a chance to get out and take any REAL pictures. Besides, I haven't yet bought the new memory card, so am just shooting with the small internal memory. New card coming soon!

Kay, they are lovely! I think I can almost smell the roses when I look at your pix. I wish I had some roses to photograph. Our part of the country has been in such a drout! I don't remember the last time we had rain. So most of what I have to photograph is cacti. But in three weeks we'll be on our way to Juneau -- and hopefully the weather there will cooperate and I'll get some good ones. I'm really happy with my new one, too, and I know we'll both be snappin'-fools for awhile :)
Keep posting, Kay! And have fun with the S3-IS! And happy birthday!
