Crissy,
I have "Shooting Digital: Pro Tips for Taking Great Pictures with Your Digital Camera" by Mikkel Aaland, and can recommend it without reservation.

I liked Bryan Peterson's, "Understanding Exposure." He has a second release out that has some specifics to digital cameras. Check out your local library.

I've just bought the book "understanding Exposure". I only got it yesterday and so I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I bought it on the recommendation of a LOT of forum members.

I have understanding exposure and it covers a lot of information -- good reading and worth the money IMO.

At the risk of sounding like an infomercial, I can't say enough about Bryan Peterson. "Understanding Exposure" is an awesome book. I just finished taking that exact course online at >PPSOP.com< It wasn't cheap, but my photographs show the dividends of my investment. I WILL take another course the next session.

me I dont read books I take the pictures learn from my mistakes and then retake them. with digital you can see the image right there so if you dont like it you figure out whats wrong with it and fix the prob and retake it.

Probably depends on what part of photography you wish to get better with. I need to get better with it all, but that is another story!
A book that I just purchased and absolutely love is Bryan Peterson's "Learning to See Creatively." He does a wonderful job with showing the scene in it's entirity then the captured photograph. This shows how he was able to remove the clutter. Then, to top it off, he explains why he feels the final shot was effective. (sense of motion, lines, etc.)
Light reading, compared to the more technical books, beautiful photos.
Since others have recommended Bryan Peterson books it seems that I will be purchasing more books by him.
Good luck.

I highly recommend taking a local college course in basic photography or if you're strapped for time then I would suggest the "Professional photography course" from the New York Institute of Photography. Not the digital course but the photo course. There is a HUGE difference. They offer financing so it's very affordable. They'll send you a free course catalog explaining everything about it.

Thanks John. I sent for the catalog. I find it interesting that the web site has nothing about price... Must really be expensive.

I took the course several years ago and I think I paid around $800 or so. It took me two and a half years to complete the course but it can be done much quicker. It's based on "film" but f/8 is still f/8. The mechanics are still the same.
Good luck!
