View Full Version : text/images cut off when printing

I am very new to this and hope someone (Wendy?) can help. I am trying to print a 12x12 scrapbook page with text and images. My top 1 inch keeps cutting off. I've done everything I know to do in page setup and print dialog boxes. Print preview shows it correctly. I have a Canon i9100 (which I would NOT recommend, BTW!). It uses too much ink and prints off color constantly.
Thanks for helping!

I have to confess that I am not a lot of use when it comes to printing out ... as I do it so rarely.
Hopefully Jodi will be along soon ... she is much better at this than I am.
Sorry :(

well I'm not too familiar with Canon Drivers but I'll take a crack at it....I'm 'assuming' you are using 13 X 19 " paper.....so, on the ' Main' page of printer properties set the page to 13 X 19>normal size>uncheck 'borderless printing'.

Jodi,
You are so much better at sorting out printing problems than I am .... :)

Wendy, the problem with this is that I'm not familiar with Canon printers. I do have a reference site tho so I can look through the screenshots for particular models and guesstimate how to handle an image.

I'm not Jodi, but perhaps I can help. First, in File / Page Setup, make sure your printer and paper size are correctly selected.
Next, when you click on File / Print, in the preview dialog box, at the top, make sure it reads Fit On Page under Print Size.
Report back if this doesn't solve your issue.

Thanks for the troubleshooting--I've done all these suggestions. In Page Setup, I have made a custom paper size for 12x12. It's selected, and I've checked "fit to page" etc. I am stumped.
Any more ideas?

When you defined your custom paper size, did you set all margins to 0 ? Also, as for the printer not printing correctly, have you calibrated your monitor ? Most of the times, the problems can be solved by calibrating the monitor.

Have you checked whether there are any updates for either the drivers or software?

This is maddening! I tried to print from Word, with a custom page size of 8x8, and it's doing the same thing. The printer--both my Epson and my Canon, are advancing the paper too far before printing. On the 8x8 size, the Epson is advancing six inches!
I am updated, but I don't know about calibrating my monitor. That's not something I've done. I am on an iMac. Where do I start?

Hi,
To calibrate your monitor click on the little apple on the top left hand side of your screen and go to System Preferences>Displays>Colour and simply follow the instructions.
I had a problem with using it because all the colour matching is done in shades of grey and I just didn't find that easy to do ... so I started using SuperCal instead .. the colour matching is done in different colours and I found it much easier:
Its shareware .. so free to try but they ask you to pay $19 if you want to continue using it. I think it is worthwhile:

Try them both and see what you think :)
