This is a composite of some children we met while working in Ukraine last September. My first try at this kind of thing and I hope to improve. My question is “ how can I enter text?”

Stringbean, what a wonderful adventure. Was it volunteer work? - my friend who is a nurse did that in Romania. Those children are so sweet. Now, the text. Down the left side tools there is a "T". text tool. Click on that and you can type what you want. Then click the move tool and the bounding box will surround the text and you can size to what you want. Across the top you can change the font, color and many things. I am doing this from memory and I am probably not the best person to advise but I am sure someone else will come along soon who can explain it better. Have fun.

I'm not sure if you want something more complicated- but you can just use the text tool to type your text. If you want to "set off" your text a bit, you could create a new layer and then make a selection with your marquee tool the size of your text and then fill it with white. Change the opacity of that white box layer to 75 or less and see if you like that. It's late, so I hope that make sense.

I did get some results with Kay’s method but It doesn’t seem exactly right. Can’t read it very well. Tomorrow I will make a duplicate and fool around with it a little. No success with Shari’s suggestion. Could it be because I have all those layers. I will try flattening a duplicate copy tomorrow and see how it goes.

Yes we were on a mission trip. Wish I had a digital the first time we went so that I don’t have to scan the pictures from all the previous trips.

Thanks for the help.

When you use the text tool it goes on its own layer. Sometimes I find the text hard to see because it is very small. When you drag the corners of the bounding box you can make it the size you want. You can also make a blank layer - put a selection on a new layer, fill the selection with white and lower the opacity. Then type your text on top and you can see through to the next layer depending on the opacity. I actually think it is probably better if you start and then ask the questions as you get into it. There are a lot of things I still don't know but the way I learned was by asking questions while I was working on the project. Have fun.

Stringbean ..

Make sure that your text layer is the top layer in the layers palette ... and choose something like white for the text :)
