View Full Version : PSE4 The hated Organizer

Hi
I have to assume that while many people appear to love the organizer in PSE4there must be a few at least like me, who really hate it.
I would simply like to remove the thing completely, i find it intrudes where its not wanted, and i also assume takes up space on my HD. I manage very well without it, using AC-DC, and the other image resources on the machine. PSE4 organizer is superfluous as far as i am concerned:eek:
Can anyone tell me how i might disable this unwanted and for me, unecessary
utility.
PS. Totally unrelated:)
I really have to say how good Vesta,s second image is, hard to make a choice which is best, a draw i would say. Well done Vesta.
Regards David

Hi David ...

If you scroll down to message 8 in this thread you will find some information ... but I don't know if it works in PSE4 or not :)

Hi Wendy
Have you got a degree in Elements. It sounds complicated but it isnt really. Followed your excellent instruction and have removed it, i hope. Time will tell, if it didnt work it down to the dummy in me!
Many thanks

Wendy, I could find "Photoshop Elements Device Connect" line in the list of services :o It goes from "performance to Plugin"

David, did you find the "Photoshop Elements Device Connect" line? By the way I am using PSE4.

Hi Karen ...

I'll have to pass on this one ... maybe on of the windows users could track it down.

Sorry ... but our version doesn't have it :)

Hi Karen
Not too sure what you are having trouble with. Give me a few minutes and i will detail how it went for me. Have to do it all again to be sure of the steps involved.

Hi Karen
These are the steps i took. It may not be the same if you dont have XP, not sure about that. But are there any Windows users who dont have XP nowadays? I set it all out along with the original instructions to attempt to make it easier to follow.

1) Click on 'Control Panel', then double-click on 'Administrative Tools',
then double-click on 'Services'.

As it says go to start, then control panel, then admin tools. Services is at the bottom of the first line of icons. Open this opens Services ( local ) and then right click on Adobe active file which is the first item shown in the list. Click on properties.
This opens a window in the general tab. Halfway down is start up types. Open the drop down list and select disable, then click ok.

2) You should now see a long list of services in alphabetical order.
Right-click on 'Adobe Active File Monitor' & click the 'Properties'
tab: half-way down the next screen is a box called 'Start-up type';
click the little black downward arrow to the right of this box, and 3
choices will appear - Automatic/Manual/Disabled. Select the
'Disabled' line and click 'OK'.

So far everything is as Wendy’s link.

3) Now repeat (2) again but against 'Photoshop Elements
Device Connect' line in the list of Services.

I could not find the above line in services so I ignored it.

4) Now open Windows Explorer and locate where PSE has created its
default folders for its catalogs. Unless you told it otherwise when you
installed PSE3 this will be in C:\Documents\Documents and Settings\
All Users\Application data\Adobe. Click and delete each of the
folders 'Catalogs' and 'Catalog Folders'.

Again I ignored all the above.
Sorry, thats wrong, just follow the path in explorer

5) Now go to where you installed PSE3 itself, which should be in
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 3. Double-click on
PSE3, then click 'PhotoshopElementsOrganiser.exe', and in the
Files and Folder Tasks on the left, select 'Move this File' and when it
asks you where to move it select C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users. All that this does is move the actual Organiser program out of
PSE3 to somewhere safe, just in case you find you want to re-use
it later. I personally did NOT do this because there is no way I
want to use it, so instead of moving it I deleted it. In the unlikely
event that I did want to use it, I would just reinstall PSE3 again
from scratch after resetting (2) and (3) back to 'Automatic'.

I went to Windows explorer and opened Adobe Elements 4. that is
C/ PROGRAMME FILES/ ADOBE/ PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 4.
Click on Elements 4 to open the window. Scroll down and look for the Elements Camera Icon, there are a few, the one you want is marked organizer. You can move this to wherever you want, I put it in my docs. However if you don’t really think you will need it again, then delete it completely. If you decide you want it back, you can always simply install Elements 4 from scratch again.
By the way, don’t forget to exit Elements 4 before you start, and of course restart to allow the changes to take effect.

It worked for me, hope it does for you. Let me know please, and if you get stuck, let me know where and i will try and stir the old brain from its lethargy and see if i might be able to help in any way.
Best of luck.

Hi
Just a small explanation. I made an error in the previous post so edited it. Also i assume that it is correct that you can delete the organizer and that it will become available again on re-install of the programme.

Hi ..

If you uninstall and then do a clean install then you should get the complete version again :)

Since I have not disabled Organizer, I can't say for sure, but since you are only turning off services, could you not just turn them back on instead of re-installing? (If you deleted something in your instructions, then ignore this comment).

Just curious-on PSE3, there is the option to open with Editor (my preference) or Organizer or both. Is is not easier to just open with Editor and ignore Organizer if you don't want to use it? I don't know if this is the same in Version 4 or not. (Yes, I understand a service takes up some part of CPU usage, but is there a significant (not just perceived) difference with these particular services turned off?) Light fuse, run:twisted:

David, like you, it was No.3 that I could not find; the rest of it was OK. Yes I do have XP. Thanks for the time an effort you put into posting a reply, much appreciated.
