Select/Modify (PE4)

Help! I working on a logo. I'm practicing at this point and I have an oval with text in it for now. I want to select the whole oval with the text but if I go to the layers palette and ctrl-click(click meaning the mouse click?), it doesn't puta marching ants oval selection around it. This is a problem because then I want to do a select/modify/contract but it doesn't show up since the oval isn't selected I guess. I'm still new to PE4 so I guess I'm doing something wrong to select. What is it I'm doing wrong?

Just gave this a quite look.

You may want to explore two differenet approaches depending on your goals and plans.

(1) Put your logo (oval with text) on its own layer with transparent background and then try Control Click again for selection.

(2) If logo is not on its own layer, try selecting the logo (oval) with the Magic Wand if there is enough of a color contrast between the background and your logo (oval).

If that does not help, I will rethink and go be plan C.
