I'm a newcomer to Photoshop elements and love the slideshow portion.
I didn't have any trouble burning onto a cd but can't email the slideshow.
Looked up the help portion and changed my preferences to attach the show to my hard drive but photoshop elements still won't let me email.
Anybody out there have any suggestions. Thanks, Joanz :(

Hi Joanz - Welcome to the Forum!! :)

I presume that you are talking about a Custom Slide Show...? You can only attach a simple pdf slide show or photos to an email from within PE3.

If you have saved it to your hard drive (as a wmv file), then just email it using your regular email program...

Thanks Mike. I took the audio off the slideshow and it emailed but it is still too big to send. The email keeps coming back to me. I'm wondering if I should try a program like Roxio easy creator 7. Thanks, Joanz

Joanz,

A Custom Slide Show is always going to be a big file to email... Why don't you just create a Simple Slide Show in pdf format?

Thanks Mike, I'll give that a try. Joanz

Well Mike, that worked. I made a simple slide show like you said. Made the photos smaller and it went through. Sooo it took me all day. At least I made some progress with your help. Onto the next lesson. So much to learn, so little time.
Thanks again, joanz :D

Joan, I had similar issues with the Custom Slide Show and tried to email a Simple Slide Show but couldn't do it. I got the slide show made, it previewed but then stuck on the last photo. I cleared that off the screen but then couldn't find the slide show on the Organizer so couldn't email it. Any suggestions?

Jim,

Which of these methods did you use to create the Slide Show?

1. Create > Slide Show > Simple Slide Show...

2. Share > Email > Simple Slide Show...

If you used method 1 the slide show will be saved on your hard drive as a pdf file. You can locate using Windows Explorer or Acrobar Reader. Organizer does not hold files in pdf format. If you create a Simpel Slide Show in this manner to email, then you need you you your regular email program.

If you used method 2, the pdf slide show is created in the background from the photos you select in Organizer befoehand or in the "Attach Selected Items To Email" window. When you send the email, only the pdf file is attached not the photos. You will find the pdf attachment in your Sent email box.

Let me know whether this helps...

Mike, thanks again for replying. I have now tried both methods and couldn't get either to work. Here's the problems I encountered:

1) I tried this, did create a pdf file which I found on the hard drive, attached it to an email message in Outlook Express, but, when I pressed "send", the attachment disappeared and the email did not get sent.

2) I just tried your second method but got a box that said "All displayed items chosen -- Are you sure you want to display all photos" and there was no choice for "Simple Slide Show." So I was stymied there too.

Kinda feeling frustrated.

Jim,

OK... lets go through each method step by step. If either don't work at your end, let me know how far you get and what happens:

1. Creating a Simple Slide Show (pdf) to email later

i. Make sure that the photos you want to use for the slide show are in Organizer - you can't add any photos to a Simple Slide Show that aren't.

ii. In Organizer, find the photos that you want to use in the slide show so that only these are displayed. If this isn't possible because they are spread across different tags, collections or dates etc. find one of the photos and left click to highlight it. If you are sending all but one or two from a particular collection you can always remove the ones you don't want to send later.

iii. Go to File > New > Slide Show (or click the Create icon and choose slide Show and choose Slide Show from the Creation Set Up screen).

iv. Choose Simple Slide Show and click OK.

v. This brings up the "Simple Slide Show" window.

vi. Use the "Add Photos", "Use Photo Again" and "Remove Photo" options to get the files you want to include in the show. To change the order of the photos by left click and hold then drag the phototo where you want it to be.

vii. Set any transitions or durations under slide show options...

viii. When you are happy with the slide show click "Save"

ix. This brings up the "Save Simple Slide Show" window. Choose a name & location for the file.

x. PSE3 will then create the slide show and write the pdf file.

xi. You should get a window "Your slide show has been successfully created". The pdf file will now be on your hard drive.

xii. If you start Outlook Express, create a new email and attach the slide show it should send just like any other email and attachment.

2. To quickly email a pdf slide show

i. Again, make sure that the photos you want to use for the slide show are in Organizer - you can't add any photos that aren't.

ii' Also, find the photos that you want to email so that only these are displayed. This is why you are getting the warning message about the number of photos... If this isn't possible because they are spread across different tags, collections or dates etc. find one of the photos and left click to highlight it.

iii. Go to Share > Email (or File > Attach to email)

iv. This brings up the "Attach Selected Items to Email" window.

v. Again you can add photos and remove photos using the "Add" and dustbin icons in the bottom left hand corner, but you can't change the order that they will appear in the slide show - so you need to add files as you want them to appear.

vi. In the top right hand corner of the Attach Selected Items to Email window is the "Choose Format" box. Next to "Format" is a window with a drop down menu. From this menu select "Simple Slide Show (pdf)".

vii. Enter any recipients and messages then click OK.

viii. If you have Outlook Express set as your email client under Edit > Preferences > Email (just thought, have you set this?) , this will then launch Outlook Express where you can add other recipients or messages or attachments and then send. The pdf file won't be saved on your hard drive...

Let me know how you get on...

Well, Mike, once again I have not succeeded. I tried your first method and got all the way to creating the slideshow and getting an Outlook Express message set up but when I hit Send, the pdf attachment disappeared and the email wouldn't go out.

As to the second method, I did successfully send a slide show (to myself) but the image was quite small. I thought that might be because I didn't have the updated version of Acrobat Reader. So I downloaded that and tried again. This time the image was bigger (but only about half the screen). However, the slideshow did not run -- it simply displayed the first photo.

I don't think you can blame me for thinking that the entire slide show feature of this program is useless (despite your valiant efforts to help). Thanks anyway.
