Greetings... I recently downloaded the "tryout" version of PSE 3. I've been evaluating it and have some questions and observations about some of the functionality.

* When I first tried to email a photo (Share->E-mail) It didn't list my default email client (Thunderbird) as an option, it Only came up with Outlook, Adobe email, and save to file. I thought I'd give the Adobe email a try and now everytime I try try to email a photo it goes directly to Adobe email which even after entering the verification code doesn't seem to be working.

* If I go Help->On-line support, it automatically starts IE instead of my default browser (Firefox) to access the adobe web site.

* I successfully created a couple of custom slide shows. Once a slide show is created, is there anyway to go back and edit it/add to it/correct it?

* I succesfully burned the two slide shows to a VCD. I went to play it on my DVD player/TV and it played OK but all the pictures were grainy and lower resolution than VCDs I've created with other products.

Any tips, suggestions, ideas, or follow-on comments would be welcome.

thanks...

Hi welcome to the forum :)

* When I first tried to email a photo (Share->E-mail) It didn't list my default email client (Thunderbird) as an option, it Only came up with Outlook, Adobe email, and save to file. Elements only supports Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, and Adobe E-mail Service :(. If you want to use your Thunderbird email client then you need to attach the file manually.

* If I go Help->On-line support, it automatically starts IE instead of my default browser (Firefox) to access the adobe web site.
I don't think the browser can be changed :(... I'll look into this one further and let you know.

* I successfully created a couple of custom slide shows. Once a slide show is created, is there anyway to go back and edit it/add to it/correct it?

Yes you can do this with Custom Slide Shows (but not Simple Slide Shows). You need to save the Slide Show before you output it as a wmv file or burn a cd. In the Slide Show Editor, go to File > Save As. The slide show will be saved as a creation in the Photo Browser.

To open it again, in Organizer go to File > Open Creation. A window will then come up with a a list of the creations you have saved.

* I succesfully burned the two slide shows to a VCD. I went to play it on my DVD player/TV and it played OK but all the pictures were grainy and lower resolution than VCDs I've created with other products.
The quality of VCD's made in PE3 is the only aspect of the software that I am disappointed with. In general VCD's give a picture quality that is at best the same as VHS tape, but usually it is inferior. I too have seen programs that give slightly better quality than you get with PE3, for example Nero. The SVCD format is also one step up in quality than VCD.

Hope this helps...

While you are evaluating PE3, check out the rest of the site. There are some excellent resources to help you get the most out of PE3.

Thanks so much for the quick reply... That certainly helps with my
evaluation of PSE 3. Unfortunately VCD creatation is one of the
main things I'm looking for in digital photo software. On the issue
of browsers and email clients, most all software even Microsoft office products know how to use your default (even if they're not Microsoft)
browser and email client. Perhaps the folks at Adobe should look
into this for future releases of PSE. Thanks again for the quick
reply!

I'm yet to find a program that will create a VCD and do my pictures justice. After spending the time on getting pictures looking sharp and perfect, the quality that results from VCD in general is disappointing :( . I think burning a DVD is really the only way to go.

Regarding browsers, I found this post on changing Internet Explorer as the default browser. It seems that PE3 isn't the only program that has this issue... :?

There is a "Wish List" section on the PET forums... perhaps you could log your suggestion about browsers and email clients there

It would be a shame if these issues put you off what is great editing software. :)
