I am a total beginer working with Scotts book. I am trying to crop a shape. When I do this I get a narrow border showing a small slice of the photo. The rest both inside and outside the shape is filled with the squares. What am I doing wrong

I'm not sure what you are following in Scott's book because i don't have it...but the squares are what is called 'transparency' in your image...so basically there is nothing there in those areas with the checkered background. Are you trying to use the crop shape option perhaps ? Select 'cookie cutter tool' ( heart ) and at the top you'll see the shape image icon...click on it and on the top right you'll see a little arrow...click on that for drop down menu and choose 'crop shape'. Choose a shape and ten just drag it accross your image....it will crop it in that shape...click on the checkmark at top of screen to commit.

If it's something different you are following then I'm sorry...perhaps a little more info.

Bob,

Which tutorial in Scott's book are you trying to follow?

Hey Bob,
Here's what might be happening. When you're choosing a cookie cutter shape, be sure and choose a shape that is blacked out completely. That will give you the crop shape you want.

If you choose one that only shows an outline of the shape you want, you're going to create just a frame, which would show your image in an outline of the shape, with the checkerboard pattern (the background) in the center.

Just make sure the shape you want is completely black... see if that works!

Dear Jan
Thank you. It worked. :D
This was my very first message to a forum so I am very excited that it worked. Thanks again
