 Okay, I need help!!! I cannot figure this out. I am trying to make a collage card for my daughter. I'm using the technique found in Gregory Georges book and substituing my own photos.

1) first I set my back ground with a cloud formation
2) added a new layer and drew a rough shape at the bottom and filled it in with the foreground colour and added a bevel edge to this selection.
3) this is where the trouble starts. I want to add my photos and selected them. First, instead of going in the bin they all pile on my screen and get in the way. Not sure how to correct this. I've tried, tile, I've tried maximize?????? I choose a picture to start working with and it turns into my background??????? I don't understand why this is happening. Shouldn't a new picture end up as a new layer on top of my existing layers?? I even went back to the original photos from the book and the same thing happened with those photos. The one selected turned into my background. The original background 2 layers end up in the bin at the bottom, but are no longer in the screen area?? What am I doing wrong???

Frustrated and confused!

Pauline,

A new layer will appear on top of the layer that is currently active so it need not be the top one. I suspect that your are in fact just selecting the images and not adding them to your new image.

Try this :

Open the image you want to add
Do Select >All
Edit>Copy
Now open your new image (the one you want to add to) and make sure that the top layer is active (go to the layers palette and make sure that the paintbrush is showing in the top thumbnail)
Now do Edit>Copy and your new image should be added.
Use the move tool to position it and if you click in the corner of the bounding box you will be able to resize it too.

Of course right after posting this, I go back and keep playing around!! I discovered that once I manipulate the new image and do what I want to it, (after making a copy of it) then I just drag it down to the bin and it appears on my original background. So.........I'm on a very awkward roll. Sort of like driving with a flat tire. LOL Lots of bumps, but getting there slowly. This is probably not going to be the creation that I hoped it would turn out to be, but it's a start!

I'm on a roll and afraid to stop!! LOL I have some pictures selected and cut out in shapes. I added a butterfly cutout and a bevel edge. A long way to go, but I am starting to feel a little more successful!! YAHOOOOOOO.
