View Full Version : Sequential chapter numbers in menus

Chapter/scene numbers in all PE menus start from one on each menu page (for example, Page one: 1,2,3,4,5,6; Page two: 1,2,3,4,5,6) etc.
I would like page two chapters (scenes) to have numbers (7,8,9,10,11,12) etc. Pinnacle Studio does that automatically.
Is there any way to do that in Premiere Elements?
I really have no need in giving specific names to each scene, but I want them to be identified uniquely by their numbers.

I am a new user of Premiere Elements 2.0 and am progressing through the "getting to know the software" stage. I have been studying the dilemma of the numbering of the scene buttons in the additional Scene Menus that are generated when the number of your slides (stills) exceeds the number of scene marker buttons on the Scene Menu 1. I confirm your observation.

Until proven otherwise, I do not believe that Premiere Elements 2.0 can automatically consecutively number the scene buttons on these additional menus from menu to menu. At least not for stills. I have not tried video. My guess is that the system is really set up for naming rather than numbering these scene buttons.

At one point I played with the idea of manually typing in the numbers consecutively for each scene button on one of the templates and then tried to find a way to save this edit. No luck.

Real customization of DVD menus is said to be in the realm of Photoshop Elements (4.0)...creating the DVD menu in Elements with the "Template Creation Wizard" and then transferring the file to Premiere Elements for use...I am not sure if the "customization" feature could be a remedy for the question at hand. Some web sites offer free downloadable templates. I have not checked them out, so I do not know what these downloads will look like.

One rationalization is how many people number the scene buttons instead of naming them? If I come across any information to address this issue, I will post again.

If you go to Help in Premiere Elements 2.0/Contents/Creating DVDs with menus/Choosing a DVD menu template, you run into
"If you don't provide marker names, the buttons remain as named in the template". So, if you want to add names or change numbers, double clicking the button title to get the Change Title Dialog Box would seem to be THE way to go.

In that regard, it would then appear that the additional Scene Menus with their prefixed number of scene buttons are copies of Scene Menu 1 rather than a continuation of... If template creation in Elements only allows you two pages of DVD template design (Main Menu and Scene Menu), then would not you run into the same dilemma as with the pre designed templates??

Just a clarification of what I wrote about playing with saving edited Scene Menu buttons....I meant saving the edited Scene Menu buttons number changes as a preset the way you would save a custom brush created in Elements. If that worked, you would have an alternative version of the original DVD template to use. I also explored the Program Files for an answer...no luck.
