I tranferred the contents from my old hard drive to my new hard drive (both are Windows XP platforms). When I was looking for a few old pictures (I had scanned them onto my PC using scansoft, I think), I discovered that I couldn't open them. My photo file was apparently saved under a .png format. Technically, this should be able to opened in Internet Explorer, Photoshop of Microsoft Photo Editor, but this didn't work in any of my programs. In photoshop, I kept getting the error: "cannot parse this file".
I'm a complete and utter newbie, so don't flame me for doing what I did. I decided to rename my file as jpeg, tif, bitmap...anything...nothing works. I only played around with this particular picture, however, whilst the others remain in .png format (I suspect it isn't even a .png file, but then what could it be?)
It's not a huge deal, but it irritates me that these files can't be opened by any program. Some advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
