Hello, I think I just discovered that saving in PSE is not the same as a word doc. I am working on a project, spent hours and hours making a perfect selection, had several versions with multiple layers and was saving the various versions with different names as "Save as". I had also saved many of the selections.

When I reopened the pics to continue working, I discovered none of the selections or layers were saved. Only the original and copy layer.

I don't know what happened?? Any ideas?

I am going to post a question on how to best obtain my goal without spending another 7 hours getting the selection and other steps I want.

Thanks,

Stacy

Stacy saving as PSD or TIFF will save your layers.

Stacy,
Try doing a search through the start menu. Someone will come along that can help you if you can't find it this way.

Grant,

They were saved as psd, so I am puzzled.

I just selected the people again and would like to save it just as it is as I need to take a break. What should I do to ensure I save the layers as active and the history?

Thanks

Hope that there is an answer in my question...

When you were saving your selections, did you make a selection and then go to Select, Save Selections, name the selection that you were working on, and then hit save...procedure repeated when there was another special selection that needed to be saved???

If you save this project as a .psd Photoshop Elements file (Save As), when you reopen the .psd file, you should have been able to recover the selection of interest by going Selection, Load Selection, picking out one of the selections that you had saved from the drop down list, .... Bottom line: The saved selections described are saved in the .psd file in this manner.

If you had not tried this route, it is worth looking into. If you have, I will try to rethink the problem.

Good luck.

You are not able to save History. Selections will be saved in PSD if you first save them using Select > Save Selection. The are restored by Select >Load Selection.

Stacy,

Another thing to watch for... it should be a default but make sure the "Layers" box is checked in the Save window.

Thanks both of you. I don't know what is happening.
In the past I have saved multiple selections and was able to reload them as you describe. Since starting this response, I think I may have a clue to what's going on. I downloaded a trial of ACDSee 8.0 and wonder if this could be interfering. They are still psd files.

I nearly finished my work, had several versions, opened one I did not want to save and said "not to save" and when I clicked all my other versions closed at the same time and I lost everyone of them. They had different file names. I have searched everywhere to find them and nada.

I am feeling very stupid at the moment that I suddenly don't know how to successfully save my work when it has never been a problem in the past.

To verify, I open a file, do some work, hit "save as" and theoretically, the original pic should remain the same and as the original name. Then I have an updated version I named when I said to "save as", correct? I am wondering if I am not saving it to a correct file?

Please help. I am very leery of doing the whole thing over again to then lose it again.

I am able to work at my computer for a while and with luck I'll get the incredibly fast responses I did yesterday.

Thanks so much.

Stacy

Staci.

This is so nerve racking. There is a recent post of someone named Lorax losing his picture files and they sent him to this place for a recovery tool. It will cost you some money but might be worth a try- File Recover by PCtools. I believe Lorax was able to recover most of his. DO a search under lost files etc.

Ok, I downloaded Tools Software File Recover and after several hours of searching, I don't think it is going to work.

I still am completely perplexed as to why I am not able to save as I have in the past. One thing I wonder is if I am having a glitch with PSE-3. I read somewhere about doing something like a re-boot, where when it opens to press something like "shift/alt/delete" and then say "yes". I went to do that and became nervous about doing it, not knowing what it does or will happen and if I could cause a new set of problems. Since downloading it onto this new computer I've wondered if it is all working right.

Thanks to you who have and may continue helping me with this aggravating and vexing problem.
