This is for a community education course on digital photography. Our assignment was simply "Take pictures of winter scenes that aren't boring black and white"

deb, boring black and white ???? I resent that comment !...let me talk to your teacher !!! :)
Your pic is really nice....but can I comment a bit on the structure/balance ? I think I would be more comfortable seeing the church closer to left or right side without being completely centered. The colors are phenominal ! Nice job !

Thanks Jodi,
I looked at it again and agree that some more interest to the left maybe so the church would be more to the right would look better. I will keep that in mind on my next shoot. I have the option to put up a grid in my viewfinder but I keep forgetting. That way, I could judge my composition better.
I appreciate you comments!

Just a suggestion - you can try it to see - I'd rotate the whole picture - so that the steeple is vertical - and not tilted to the back. Also I'd try to crop it to get rid of the post - maybe even make the church a little closer by doing it that way. And try one more - get rid of all the color and see what you have. Thats what is nice about these programs - you can do all sorts of different things and still have the original - ready and waiting for more trials and errors.
