I would like to take make an image of my workflow for this picture so you can tell me what I did because I would like to do it again. I was using the selective blur and did something else. I want you guys to see my layers palette. How do I show you this. I am so excited about this. I haven't been able to select my grandaughter out her self so have bee with Wendy and others help playing around with this. I saved this for a web and saw the changes but it still is large:confused:

Hi Vesta,
With PSE and your image open, press the "Print Screen" button. Mine says "Prt Sc" and is located in the upper right hand portion of the keyboard. From there, go "file>New>Image from Clipboard"
You may want to resize your photo for the web. I have difficulty viewing it. Having said that, it's really a beautiful image. I love it!

Norm I will try and resize again and will send. Thanks so much for looking at it for me.
I did finally get this done per your instructions. I stillhave the original and I starteded this in two differtent trys adding to my first as goes... Original made copy then did a glausian blu and then repainted on her dress lips and on another layer added some blue to her eyes as it didn't show up blue in orignal pic. I saved as a psd then watch the new video selective blur I proceeded to flollow the steps liked what I saw.. I have always wanted to select her. I must have been on the layer above the gradient( the clipping , I think it was called and when I did another gradient theng it turned white a assume around my grandadaughters image. What did I do?
Also the original pic is 180 resolution can I increase that so it will print better. I have to reduce the size but nver get it right. Before I was trying to crop it didn't work so I choose marquee tool and set resize image to 5x7. I still don't have that clear yet.

Hi Vesta,
I'm probably not the guy to be speaking with in regard to such complex things. I'm just really getting a grasp of layers myself.
Looking at your screen shot, it looks to me like you've added a new layer above your other work that is filled with white. You then grouped it with the levels adjustment layer just below it. Because that layer has a gradient in the centre, it produces the opening it the white layer, through which your beautiful grand daughter is visible.
Whatever you did, it produces a marvelous image. Hopefully someone who knows what they're talking about can jump in here and add a little clarity.

Hi Norm,
I think you understand layers better than you think you do. It was a great explanation. I do need to frame this are make some kind of edge, get rid of some of the white which means doing some kind of crop which I am not comfortable with. I'll wait as you advise and hope some will come along with some more great advice like yours.
Thanks again

Thanks Vesta,
It must be a nice day all over. There doesn't seem to be many people around.
The crop tool, set to the 5 x 5 setting seems to work very well with this image. Here's how it looks.

Just a thought. Can you blur the background any more? Maybe tone down the arm a bit, or cover it with some of the fabric beside the right side of her pretty little face?
Gosh, this is a really terrific image. What a nice job you did with it.
Can't wait to see it all framed up. I think you gotta get this one printed.

I know "Vanna" can sell you a vowel but I need to find someone who sells adjectives. Seems I run out and keep using the same ones. That said, this is gorgeous, sensational, etc. I love what you've got going there. I'll be anxiousl to see it all finished.

Vesta,
I think that you have created a really nice image here. A bit of the white cropped off each side and it will be perfect. :)

Vesta - that should be entered in a contest - it is an absolutely beautiful shot and you are doing a great job editing it.

Norm, Carol, Robyn and Shari,
I have the same trouble..running out of adjectives when it comes to describing how nice you guys and gals are.
You have all made my day. Norm thanks the crop look good; what tool did you use to crop ..the crop, marquee etc. and did you change the resolutions?
I will get rid of the arm, I could add more blur to it. do I have to go back to my layers and make that particular layer active or can I just add another guassian blur on top again? Think I will look at a frame video should I matt it Ha ha. I have a few thoughts now and then just don't have the knowledge to do them.

I just used the crop tool set at an aspect ration of 5x5. Here's a screen shot.

I sure am glad you can save images to keep working on. This still doesn't look great but you know I have learned a little about cloning ( I cloned the dark arm out) and tried the smudge tool probably should have left it after cloning.
I am sending both the original for maybe more ideas (such as selecting her off the pic) and to give you an idea of where I started from.
P.S. I just got a Wacom yesterday, don't have it in use yet.
