How do I straighten the horizon in an off-level photo. The help menu doesn;t give a clear explanation. I have Elements 3.0.

Click ROTATE

Click CUSTOM ROTATE

You"ll get a screen allowing you to select how many degrees you want to rotate and the direction

Hope that helps

Another way is to open your info palette then select the line tool and drag a line along the horizon of your image but DONT let go of the mouse ... look at the info palette and you will see the number of degrees. Write it down then undo the line.

Now follow Don's Image>Rotate>Custom and use the number of degrees you wrote down ... that your straighten it just fine.

...and another quick way is to use the crop tool.

Select the crop tool and drag it over the photo. Rotate the cropping outline until either the top line is horizontal line is parallel with the horizon.

Expand the box to include as much of the photo as possible and then crop.

The image will be straightened.

I find the crop tool as a quick and easy way of straightening crooked pictures, especially horizons. It's quick and easier to do than write down. Also, it's a single step - many tutorials on straightening images finsh with the using the crop tool to trim the picture. In many cases you can just go straight to the crop tool.
