Hi :)
Can someone point me in the direction of puting text on a picture that will blend in with the background. I want to blend words into the sand of a picture I have of the ocean. I found one, but not in elements and I seem to be missing a step cause I can't get it to blend into the sand like it was drawn into it. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks:D

Laura,
What a great effect for, kids playing in the dirt, sand, etc. I am looking forward to an answer.

Hi there ...

It maybe easier if you let us have a link to an image of the sort of thing you mean ... :)

I will try that one. The one I got was from the scrappers but I couldn't get it to work. Tonight when I get home I will try that. Thanks

Nancy I brought my lap top to work and tried this and have a few questions.

A. first it ask me to duplicate the layer, the then rotate it 180 degrees?? Why.

B then it says select text and Rastorize?? Is that a text type? I guess if it is the I will us another as I don't have that.

C. then it says to smudge edges, sorry never done that and it doens't explain where to go and how to do it. I did find in the filter smudge stick under Artistic but don't know how to use it.

Well as you can see I am not doing well from the get go. Do you know where I might find a more detail walk through for beginners? Vidios are even better. Thanks

Laura ..

1. It tells you to duplicate and rotate the layer because later you are going to delete the text area from the top layer and let the bottom one show through. Rotating the layer makes the two layers slightly different to each other ... and that will show when you do the cut out.

2. Select Text and Rasterize ... just means choose your font, type in your text and then do Layer>Simplify Layer (that rasterizes the text)

3. Smudge the edges ... Select the smudge tool. Thats in the tool box right hand side, just above the two colours ... it maybe hidden under the dodge or the burn tool. Using the smudge tool is a bit like finger painting ... you just push it around the edges and the text will smudge ..

Hopw this helps :)

Hi Wendy

I attempted but had some problems. I couldn't keep working on it so I will get back to this on Friday or during my lunch hour today. I will keep you posted. One quick question, my picture isn't just sand it is a picture of my son at the beach in Hawaii, will that work? Also do I type the text on the first layer or the upside down one? These are two quick questions and the second might be a strange one.

Nancy:

Where to you guys find these things??????????

AND

How do you keep track of them when you find them????

Having lived at the beach for 30 some-odd years, I will have to try that out!:D

Thanks!

Laura ...

Your text will type on its own layer and this effect will probably work on on anything but really it is intended for something like sand.

Sorry I was not on last night at all so didn't get to answer your question. Thank goodness Wendy was here to help you out. ;)

I have bookmarked several sites that people have told me about and whenever a question like this comes up I go check them. Actually, there is an excellent one in Scott Kelby's book but since it is not online I went with one I knew about already posted online.
