Since downloading the windows raw image thumbnail viewer, my camera window no longer opens automatically on inputting the cf card. AND, when opening PSE4 organizer with all the new raw files, it often says "Elements has experienced a problem... and has to shut down", giving some error code wityh all zeroes.
I uninstalled the windows viewer and the results are the same.
I can still download the cf manually, it's seen by the computer, I've checked the program files and it's set to prompt when inserting the cf card, nothing happens.
I have an Athlon dual core 4200+, 1g memory and 250 hd, but I'm limited in computer skills, so I'm very lost.
Also, can anyone tell me how I could view psd files in windows?
Any ideas?

Hi Barry ...
Have you tried deleting the Elements prefs file?
To do that close down Elements then click on the Editor start up icon and quickly hold down the Control, Alt and Shift keys (Mac users ... Apple, Alt and Shift). Continue to hold down all three keys until you get a screen asking if you want to delete Settings ... just say Yes.
Its worth trying that first :)

Hi Wendy.
I'm not sure why you suggested that. Anyway, I tried it and nothing happened. How long should I hold?
could you explain your idea?
Thanks.

Hi Barry
If you were to call tech support and open your wallet the first thing they will have you do is what Wendy is suggesting. It may not help but often fixes everything.
There is more than one way to reset your preferences. Wendy's is the easiest but you have to keep trying until a box comes up asking if you want to reset.... but here is another way that saves your old preferences in case it does not help and you do not want to reset all your changes... here it is. Give it a try.
Re-create the Photoshop Elements preferences files.
Photoshop Elements stores information about plug-ins, features, and the application itself in its preferences files. Re-create the Photoshop Elements preferences files to eliminate problems that damaged settings files might cause.
To re-create the Photoshop Elements preferences files:
1. Exit Photoshop Elements.
2. Locate the Adobe Photoshop Elements preferences files. In Photoshop Elements 4.0, there are two preferences files, one for Organizer and one for Editor:
-- Documents and Settings\[ user ]\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\4.0\Organizer\psa.prf
-- Documents and Settings\[ user ]\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\4.0\Editor\Photoshop Elements 4.0 Prefs.psp
3. Rename the files (for example, to Prefspsp.old).
4. Start Photoshop Elements. Photoshop Elements creates new preferences files.

Well guys, I finally got the reset prefs window. You're right; you've gotta be quick.
Anyway, I reset the prefs, and the error still occurs, when trying to load organizer with new photos. It'll start, then after a few the error pops up. Error xxxx00005.
I go into organizer, it asks about the new photos in the watched files and do I want to add, I say yes and it starts, then
Help; what's next to try?
Thanks.

That was interesting!!
I did the delete of the status.dat file and tried again.
The same error message appeared, but I just let it run and all the photos were loaded, like they should!
Any ideas on this?

I thought that would do it for you Barry.... Maybe another deleting of the status file and a reset of preferences and a reboot may do it... if not time for the sledgehammer...

One other thing to try as well... use msconfig to shut down as many startup programs as you can then start the organizer... There have been problems like yours in the past where a startup program in memory was interfering.
