Organizer Not Recognizing Drive

I'm trying to burn a copy of a collection of pics from Organizer but it keeps telling me there is no operable CD/DVD burner. Does anyone know how to make Organizer recognize the drive?

I can't help you but I've had the same problem, so I am going to follow your thread! My problem is slightly different, but probably has the same cure, hopefully.
I have copied proxy's of photos from my DVD (E:/) that show up in the organizer just fine. But when I try to edit one of the photos, it attempts to retreive the original from the A:/ and I cannot get it to recognize any other drive.
Hopefully both of our problems can be fixed with the same answer from someone more experienced than me!

First, do you have a CD or DVD writer and do they work for non-Elements/Organizer tasks? Did they ever work in the Organizer? Please excuse, but just a reminder, CD writers requires CDs whereas most DVD writers will accept CDs and DVDs. Is there any remote possibility that you are trying to burn a DVD on a CD writer drive??? Also, how many writer drives do you have?

I am no expert, but have had some experience installing internal drives. If this is a CD/DVD writer problem, then read on:

Possibilities:

(1) IDE cable and the CD or CD/DVD writer drive not connected properly
(2) Conflicts with other IDE devices...check Master/Slave device setting

I hope this has been helpful, and again please excuse if I have mentioned areas that you were already aware of.

No offense taken. The drive works fine outside of Organizer. I don't think I have ever tried to use it from within Organizer before.

No answers in this response, but thought I would give you a baseline which respect to my Organizer here from which I can burn CDs and DVDs, from collections or otherwise....

If I go to Help in the Organizer and then System Info, listed there are my writers (CD and CD/DVD).
The file for my Catalog is found under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Applications Data\Adobe\Catalogs\. When I bring up the Catalog file (PSA File), I can click on Properties and view file attributes Read only and Hidden among other things (both these are unchecked). I was not adventurous enough to go further.

You did not say what version of Elements you are working with. If 4.0, the Organizers are very similar. One difference is that there is no DVD burn option in 4.0. If you have 4.0, maybe someone out there with 4.0 will verify that what you are trying to do is doable.
