be a very silly question. When I am trying to do a Style and Effects frame around a picture, it does it but it is so thin it is barely noticeable. Is there any way to make it wider (I swear it was when I got PSE4, but I probably jacked it up). Thanks for your help.

go up to layer>layer styles>scale effects and there you can change the percentage for the size.

Hi there ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
The thickess of the frame does cvary according to the resolution of the image. The higher the resolution the thinner the frame ... Pauline's method should sort it out for you ...

Thank you for the question. I also am new to PSE and had the same question. I agree that you will find the forum is the greatest place to get answers. These people are super and someone can and will help with anything and do without making us novices feel stupid. I love it here and spend more time reading the forums than actually working on any pics.

That is a trap that I still haven't quite managed to get myself out of yet! :D :D

Maybe I'm not a 100% bright tonight (these things happen.. hahaha!) But scaling the effect will scale the effect (pattern, or otherwise) within the effect, not actually make the border (frame) bigger or smaller.
The way I understood the question, the border (frame) is too thin, not the motif inside of it (but probably too). In this case, that's because the image is bigger than the last time you use it. Say you have a 800 x 600 image, the frame will look bigger than if you have a 3042 * 2048 image.
Hope this helps!

Ray, I think your tired. Scaling the LAYER STYLE will make it larger and not do anything to the picture inside. I've done it.

That's what I said, Pauline. Using the Scale command will not make the frame thicker. But the O.P. said :
it does it but it is so thin it is barely noticeable
To show what I was thinking, first video is made with a full size picture (3000 pixels wide)

Second video, I resized the image :

Oh what a pain ... they have made the frames none scaleable and the only thing you can alter is shadow distance or in some of the others bevel size
Have to admit that once I found Jodi's frames (which incidentlty are scalable :)) I stopped using the ones in Elements ...
For Jodi's frames go to the subscriber area, click on downloads and you will find them there :)

Well thanks for clearning that up Ray. I must have been using Jodi's frames!! It is a bit of a pain that you can't change the width of them. I find the frames that come with elements leave a lot to be desired.
Great movie by the way. You are getting good.

Ray there is nothing wrong with your English!! You just have a French accent. You are perfectly understandable. You have a very nice soft spoken voice.

Ok... I said that because I made Pauline 3 videos (exclusives !) and when I listened to them, I sounded aweful. But then, I've always been a bad judge of my own work (or self, for that matter)
