Can anyone explain how I can retrived the Videos when using Mozilla's Firefox.
I was using Internet Explorer, but I am currently having a problem with it. Apparently it has acquired some corrupted files, as I can no longer open any links. The result for now is to use Firefox, but I don't know how to save the new Videos while using this browser. Any help will be appreciated. I'm sure there must be a way, but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks for trying Wendy, but that didn't help. I really don't understand what he meant by his message. I couldn't locate any Quick Time movie in the Cache that I found under Mozilla.

Dorrie,

Quicktime has a setting that you can use to tell it to save in the Cache. If this is not set, Quicktime will save in memory and never write to your cache directory. It may be that the movies you are looking for are residing in RAM and not on the disk.

Joe,

Actually I did find them, however they had strange names, more like numbers & letters, but they were the current movies and I was able to save them and rename them, however when I attempt to open them I have to select "Quite Time Player" as the program to use to open them as they are not listed as QT Movies...Is this the way Mozilla works if you do not have QT Pro???

Dorrie,

Once you have the movies saved, be sure that they have the .MOV extension on them. They should open in Quicktime without Firefox being involved. If they don't open in Quicktime, open the Quicktime player, then open the Edit menu, Preferences, Quiktime Preferences. Now, click the File Types tab, then expand the video node and be sure that Quick Time movie is selected.

You may find it easier to go through Windows Explorer and set the association there or click "Always open .Mov files with this program" when you are prompted.

Joe, Thank you... while I didn't understand your QT preferences or Windows Explorer suggestions, I did add the extension .mov to the file and it now opens in Qucktime just fine.

Again thanks for your help. The movies are now saved to my hard disk and work fine.

It sure was a lot easier to do in Internet Explorer. I'll be glad when my daughter can fix it for me. When it comes to problems like this, I'm at a loss. Usually don't have much problem using programs like PSE or the like, but solving clitches that computers have are more than this old head can cope with. :(

I'm glad to hear that you can view the tutorials now. Better to spend time creating art than waste it trying to deal with computer nonsense. :)

None of this would be any problem if the people who run this site would just place a link to the video onthe page rather than opening it in a new window. I e-mailed them once to suggest it but I just got a nonsense reply from them.

Yes, I do believe you are right Joe it would make it easier, but it's people like you that save the day for people like me. Thank you again for your help. :)

Dorrie, I didn't find Mozilla easy at all! I downloaded it hoping to be able to save the videos from lynda.com but in the end it doesn't work. (I guess they have them blocked). Finding the files was a real big pain and the fact that they are numbered with no sense of what they are makes it even worse. internet explorer is much easier! I hope you get yours fixed.

I agree with you completely Pauline, IE is much easier to use. I do hope my daughter, who helps me with this sort of thing will be able to fix it before too long. She's very good at all the techie stuff. She even builds her own computers, and has them all networked in her house. In the meantime I'll get by with Mozilla. In a way I'm glad I had it, otherwise I would not have been able to see any of the links posted here.

Looking for a better day.....Dorrie :):D

Wendy I tried and Ray was helping me. They wouldn't save for me. Maybe it's just the sample ones that can be saved since they are free to begin with. :(

Wendy and Pauline, that's my bet, about lynda.com movies. I took a class from one of the movie authors, and I seem to remember him mentioning something about them being protected. Or, maybe not. It was awhile ago.

At any rate, there's a lot of good stuff on a lot of different programs there!

Dorrie H,
Hi, give Firefox a longer try. IE is to insecure to continue to use.

The way I save video in Firefox is, I first let the video load, not play it, just make sure it finished loading.

Then I right click on the top area of the video window (not the spot that has http://www,etc, the area just below that). You should get a dialog box that has reload, bookmark, save page as, and view page info at the bottom. View Page Info is the one you want. If you get About Quicktime, right click higher on the video window.

In View Page Info window, there are tabs across the top. General, Forms, Links, Media, Security. Click the Media Tab.

In the Address area there maybe several http://www.photoshop... addresses.

Look for the one that ends in .mov. It will be listed as Type: Embed
Single click to Select that url

Click Save As box and save the file to where you keep your movies.

That's it.

I'll be d4mned. I've been going through a goat rodeo to do just that. Had trouble finding the cache for the page and when I found it, it was renamed some obtuse name which I had to dork with....

Wendy, great tip! Thanks.

Wendy Kelly Budd,

Oh, THANK YOU so much. That is much easier. You have made me a Happy Camper.:):)

I just have one more question for you. I thought I saw somewhere where you could clear the cache file, but for the life of me, now I can't find it. Am I dreaming or is this possible in Firefox?

I may just keep firefox after all.

Thanks everyone. I am waiting for Customer service to open and reply back to me. I do think it's only a glitch, nothing serious.

i have been following this topic and have figured out how to save the free videos but when I apply that method to other videos I just get the hyper text version.
I am using fire fox. No luck on internet explorer either.

thanks for your reply. I am trying to save the workflow videos in the subscribers section of this site.
In the meantime I have installed quick time pro as someone suggested that as a possible route. Can't figure that one out either.
I do appreciate your attention...Meribeth

With QT PRO -- after the video has downloaded all the way -- look in the lower right corner and you'll see a small triangle -- click on the triangle and one of the options is save as quicktime movie -- just select your folder and you're done with it.

Hi Meribeth,
I've saved many of the great videos from the Subscriber area. I'm using Firefox and Quicktime, the free one, not pro. Using the instructions that I posted on 04-12-2006, 06:57 AM in this thread, where do you find that your screen isn't following the steps?

Hi Wendy.....Following your excellent instructions I am able to download the free videos. It is the 21 day course. workflow. that I am having trouble with.
I am now going to go and try this new suggestion about clicking that triangle. Hopefully I will be back with good news!.....Thanks again...Meribeth
