Please excuse if you've seen this on another PS forum, but I'm trying for an ounce of prevention instead of a # of cure.Have 5000+ pics on PSE3 with tags and creations in Organizer. Want to move all of My Pictures (as well as rest of My Documents folder) to recently installed larger second internal HD. Running Win XP SP2. Want to avoid problem with Photoshop's link to the files. Have PSE4 and Premier Elements, but have not yet installed. Question is how to move the Pics to new drive to avoid "reconnect" problems, and should I install PSE4 with Premier Elements before or after attempting the move. Looking for suggestions, especially from any who has done this in PSE4

Hi there ...

... and welcome to the forum :)

Sorry I can't help on this one as I am a Mac user and our version of PSE doesn't have the organiser ... but I did find a thread that may answer some of your queries. Here is the link:

From personal experience I would install PSE 4 BEFORE relocating anything.

I spent 3 days reconstructing my catalogues from PSE 3 when I upgraded, NONE of my catalogues would appear at all when I installed PSE 4, someone will tell me a) they are still on my computer somewhere and b) quite possibly where they are, BUT at the time I never found them and basically had to reload ALL my photos from my hard drives and the back ups from the cds.

When I moved all my photos to my slave drive I used PSE to do it, can't remember how long it took but it is fairly easy.....

Or maybe I made some huge mistake and someone with greater experience and knowledge will correct my error. BUT it did work for me.....

When I installed my slave drive in my computer, I left PSE4 on my C drive and moved my pictures to the new drive. To avoid the reconnect issue, you can do this through the organizer. To do this, select the pictures you want to move (I did this in batches - not all at one time). Click File>move and select the new locatation. It moved all my pictures over and I haven't had to reconnect any pictures. Also, it was recommended to me that I leave PSE4 on the C drive, so if it were to crash I wouldn't loose all of my pictures.
