Would any one know why some of my RAW picture thumbnails in the organizer are dark (black), light (almost white) or OK? Yet when I edit them they are all OK. I have no issues with any of my JPG files.

I haven't had that problem -- all my thumbnails are well represented to what they actually look like.
Which version of PSE are you using?

I don't have any problems viewing RAW thumbnails in Organizer. In Organizer Preferences under Files, do you have the "Use lower quality thumbnails...." box checked?

Yes. Thanks. It seems to have something to do with opening the file. Before I open it I can see it, once I open and close it, I may or may not see it.

If you have the "Use lower quality thumbnails...." box checked, then uncheck it and see if that cures the problem.

Hi ...
There have been quite a few messages on different forums about black thumbnails ... but most of them seem to relate to tiff files. Various workarounds have been suggested by no one seems to have worked out what causes it or why ... Adobe have been informed but don't seem to be getting back to people with a solution.
... I wonder if your problem is realted to this ??

Puzzling indeed... . It will be interesting to see what Adobe come up with on this. I have a large number of RAW (cr2), TIFF and JPEG files in Organizer but no black thumbnails...

Hi Mike ...
So far Adobe seem to give the same reply to everyone .. then simply don't come back to them. Its been going on for months ... so I suspect that they simply don't know what is causing it :(
Interestingly enough someone had a similar problem with iPhoto 6 and that turned out to be a missing colour profile:

Wendy,
Strange the some have the problem and others don't.. and that it's across both platforms   . Falls into the too hard box, especially on a Sunday morning.

Mike ..
Thats the only occasion I have heard of black photos on a Mac ... but it does make me wonder if the Organiser problem may be something similar :)

Thanks Wendy. I forgot about the Adobe Forum. I'll post there also and see what comes back.

Hi ...
Not sure that it will do any good ... no one there knows what is causing it either :(

Hi Wendy,
You're probably right. Most of the problems seem to be TIFF related. Maybe my problem is a Canon Rebel/RAW issue. Anyways I've posted in the RAW forum and I'll see what comes out of it. I'll probably call tech support this week. Thanks again for your input.
Regards,
Eric
