I was editing a scanned photousing my brand new Intuos3 tablet. I was cloning some skin but suddenly the clone tool was not working. Does the tool not work on Levels or Adjustment layers? Does it only work on background copies? When does it work and when does it fake you out?

I also noticed that the clone tool had a really large diameter. Is this a problem with my new pen? The circle was also a mottled color. I'm also using a brand new PE 4 with a Mac.

Thanks.

Hi Sandy ..

The clone tool will not work on a Adjustment layer but it will work on most other sorts of layers (not just the background layer) have you got the Use all layers section ticked ??

The circle of the pen tool being mottled does sound odd and I think that I would try deleting the prefs:

To do that close down Elements then click on the Editor start up icon and quickly hold down the Apple, Alt and Shift kkeys. Continue to hold down all three keys until you get a screen asking if you want to delete Settings ... just say Yes.

That usually sorts out strange behaviour ... do let us know how you go on :)

I have no idea what that is or how I select or deselect that.

OK, I'll try that one. Thanks.

Hi Sandy ...

Select the clone tool and then look at the top of the screen ... you will see a small box marked Use all layers ... just click on it :)

What it does is allows you to clone information from other layers onto the one you are working on ...

Well, I think my problem was the new pen with my Intuos3. Seems like it was not sensitive enough for my touch. Thus I did not see anything happen. I called Wacom and they helped me set the prefs. Of course the first thing they suggested was to do was start by holding down the Shfit+ Apple+ Option key!

Thanks, you gave me a head start.

Oh thanks Wendy! I was working on a picture this morning which had about ten layers via cut and was having a difficult time cloning. Now I know how to it. Yay!
