Cannot open file

Yesterday I scanned in a photo then imported it into PSE 4 and did some minor editing like, resize, crop and color enhancement and added a frame. I saved the new edited picture and when I went back to the organizer the thumbnail was not there but a small square like it was torn in half. When I go to open this photo in PSE 4 (Windows) I get a alert saying that PSE 4 cannot open because it is the wrong type of file. Also when I go to the folder where the photo is there is not a thumbnail image either but a funny looking icon. When I go to open this image from this folder a pop up screen asks what progran to use to open and PSE 4 is not listed but if open it with Internet Explorer it opens just fine. What gives.??? Why no thumbnails either in the folder or PSE 4 organizer. When I resized I used the Image ,resize in the editor mode and resized for proper demensions for the PSE Gallery I thought I did all this for JPEG format also.. I am a little confused on exactly what happened and what I must have done wrong. Any suggestions.

I just had this problem....it drove me crazy. The picture I had was from an email.

Try this.....right click on the name and click on rename. rename the file with a .jpg extension even if it doesn't have one now. Mine had about a 16 character extension. I typed teampic.jpg and voila...the icon changed and I could open the picture.

Mom to 4 , It worked for the thumbnail in my saved folder now I will checek out the editor. Thanks a lot for the quick response. I'm still curious as to how it happened in the first place.

I have no idea why it happened to me either. I had received other email pics and was able to save them without a problem. It happens every once in a while to me for no reason whatsoever. I think I spent at least 2 hours on the forum with at least 5 people giving advice. Nothing worked. Then I just looked at it, and right clicked by mistake and figured what the heck, let me try this.... and IT WORKED!!!!

I am glad I saved you some of the frustration that I had!!!! I think it is just one of those things!

Mom to 4 , I just checked out the PSE 4 organizer and I can't open it up in there. Maybe I'll go back a save it for the web and see if that works. But thanks for your help.
