Hi - I have a photo of a cat laying on the floor. I want to do the head of the cat in colour and framed with the background black and white. I seem to be having a problem with the layers and what I am doing. Can any of you wonderful people help. Thank you.

Shari- Are you using a tutorial or a book? Wendy did a tutorial on this:

See if that helps!

Kay - I was trying to figure it out by myself and I did - it was the inverse that I had forgotten. Thanks - I should have waited - but you know how it is!

Yeah, it's fun to experiment! Show us your final version when you're done!

Kay, I have to say after looking at your gallery again I am embarrassed to show my very easy work. Actually I am not pleased with the effect of this photo I did. The photo is for a card for our granddaughter's 13th birthday. Deanna is autistic and it is very hard to communicate with her. The one thing she is interested in is her art. When she saw my new digital Fugi camera last April when we were out for her birthday she made up her mind she wanted one. She talked about it all the time. She wanted one like Grandma Sharis. They gave her one for Christmas and she is really having fun with it. Actually we are giving her a more powerful card and more paper for her birthday. I am attaching a photo of her last year. Maybe someone can come up with an idea for a card I could make for her. The reason I did the cat is because she loves her cat too. I used to come up with all sorts of good ideas in Print Shop but with the photos it is taking time. Thanks.

Shari-
There are so many things to do, it's hard to choose! I would be tempted to do a filmstrip, partly because of the camera theme of the gift. You could do the cat and Deanna, and then maybe words or pictures for the third part of the strip. There are also some fun brushes you could use for party effects. I've downloaded some from Adobe Studio Exchange called Bee's Party. I did something really quick to show you what I mean, but you could do a million variations on this theme. I hope this gives you some inspiration.

Kay - thank you so much. But I have been trying to download Bee's party brushes for the last hour and really don't know how. I have it and unzipped it (I think) and then when I click and click on preset managers and brushes and load - that is where I am stuck. There is nothing to load - I have typed in names and tried going to the folder - I just don't know and am confused. I also have never tried the film strip but thought I might load these first and maybe try the film strip tomorrow when I am fresh.
This is not my day. I am having trouble with ProShow as well. I have done a DVD but can only get the first segment to play and so have been on e-mail with them too (and they are no help). I'm tempted to pack it in but would really like to download these brushes and figure that out - them maybe I will be able to download Grants too. Thanks Kay or anyone.
A very frustrated Shari

Shari- Don't give up! Did you get out of elements and back in? Where did you save the brushes when you unzipped the files? Your brushes should be saved to:
C:/programs/adobe/photoshop elements 3.0/presets/brushes --
(or 4.0, depending on which version you have)

Hi Kay,
I DIDN'T give up. I did it. I have never downloaded any of those brushes people talk about. It is magic. Thank you sooo much. The only thing is when I loaded them my signature brushes disappeared - but no matter - they are easy to do again. I found all sorts of brushes I didn't know I had. My husband is not going to be happy - as he already gets upset at how long I stay here with my sore arm and eyes - oh well - so much more experimenting to do. Maybe I will end up being able to post a gallery like yours some day.
Thanks again for taking the time.

Hi Shari ...
I think that the filmstrip would be a good idea too :) and if you get stuck going it then everyone will help you sort it out. Look forward to seeing your next image :)
The instruction that come with a lot of brushes are how to install them using Photoshop .. just make a note of the instructions from Kay and use that methos next time. Adobe Exchange has some great brushes ... its a whole new magic world :)
By the way when you originally made your signature brushes did you not save them? ... if you are not sure how to do that try message no 19 in this thread:
