View Full Version : Fading without loosig structure

Hi there!
I sometimes run into a problem I don't know how to solve, but it shouldn't be very difficult I think. For instance, I have an image containing a wall with a structure. It can be a wallpaper or a outdoor wall. On the wall there is an object I don't want there so I use cloning to get rid of it. But sometimes I end up with quite sharp edgy ugly colour transitions because of the cloning. The object is gone, the structure on the wall looks fine but the colours don't look good at all. How can I create a smooth colour fading to that part of the picture without loosing the nicelooking structure? I can't use the unsharpening filters because then I loose the structure as well. I just want a sort of "colour unsharp". It ought to have something to do with gradient (fade) but I don't know how.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi Lasse ...

A couple of ways may work ...

Try using the healing brush over the area once you have finished the cloning ... or maybe a slight blur on the area :)

An example of your image might be handy but possibly you could make a selection of the structure, inverse it and apply a gradient to the wall. Throw in some noise and such to create some texture to it if it starts to look too fake etc. If only the structure is important then you could fill the wall in with almost anything.

Or you could create a selection from part of your wall and clone it then paste over the area you tried to remove the object from.
