Photos recieved via e-mail

I have been editing some of the photos I receive from others in e-mail. The kids really like some of the changes I make to the photos. I set up a folder for my photos from e-mail and have not had a problem - until tonight. When I put the photo into standard edit the layer says indexed and it is locked and I can do nothing. Also when I tried to do Enhance it seemed like it might have already been done as the different actions were faded. Does anyone know what might have happened? Thanks in advance.

When some pictures come across the internet they arrive as indexed and Elements will not allow you to do much editing. Simply go to Image - Mode and then check RGB instead of indexed and all will be fine.

Nancy - Thank you. What would I do without you guys. This forum is worth it's weight in gold - for sure a yearly subscription. I have now made one Mom very happy with some artistic images of her children.

No problem Shari. That one got me several times before I figured it out. Now anything I download I do a quick check before I start trying to edit to save a few headaches.:rolleyes:
