I brought an EPS file into Elements, and converted it to a bmp. The only problem I am having is that I want the background of the image to be transparent. I only want the text in the eps file to be converted to a bmp? Right now when I bring the bmp into my other software, I am getting a white rectangular background behind my text, which I don't want.
Thx
Kev

Hi, you'll need to save it in a format that allows for transparency, like GIF or PNG.

Can I then save it as a bmp afterwords, as the other program I amuing it in only accepts bitmaps?
Thx

saving it back to a bitmap will just put you back where you started so that wont work....what program are you trying to put it into ?

Hi Jodi, I am 3D Mechanical Draftsperson and I am using Autodesk Inventor, and I can place bmps as decals on my 3D solids. Unfortunatley they have to be BMP's or JPG's
Thx

Well, in Elements what if you made the background of your file the same color as the background of your 3d object and then save it as a jpeg ? I'm not sure what you are trying to place it on but if you crop real close and then add the same color around then maybe that could work for you. You can just create a new layer below the file and fill it with the color you need and then save as a jpeg.

Thanks very much for taking the time to help me Jodi. I basically do not know anything about Elements, I just got the program yesterday. How do I change the background colour Jodi? How do I crop any shapes other than rectangles, as when I choose the crop tool, it is waiting for me to select a rectangular area and ofcourse the text is anything but rectangular. Basically what I am doing Jodi, is briniging in an .eps file (silkscreen file), cropping it and saving it as a bmp. I have attached the EPS file for you to see.
Thx
Kev

Hi Jodi, I can actually select the text using the Magic Brush Selection tool, but not sure what to do from there?
Thx

Ya there isn't any way to crop to a certain shape for exporting other than square/rec ...that's just how pixels go. As far as changing the background color...ya you can select the text with magic wand and then Select>'inverse' and fill it with color w/paintbucket or better way would be to create a new layer ...look on layers palette for 'new layer' icon and hold down control key and click on it...that will put a new blank layer under your transparent text layer and then you can just fill it with the color you need....then save to jpg format which will merge the layers together. Just wondering whether you could create the text in Inventor or does that require extra tools ?

Yes I can create the text in Inventor, but I need the following font
Avant Garde Bold

Oh I don't have that font either...will your program accept Auto Cad Drawing files ? .DWG ? If you send me the eps I could save it to that format for you...

well it seems that was my dumb thought of the day as i don't believe .DWF format allows for transparency either...perhaps you could find a similar font here...free
