View Full Version : Camera Raw and Nikon D200

Hello,
I have PSE 3 and recently bought a Nikon D200. One of the first things I did after getting the D200 was to update PSE's Camera Raw plug-in to version 3.3, which now includes support for the D200. However, I'm having a problem any time I try to open a Nikon Raw NEF file in PSE. Instead of getting the full-blown raw edit window with its histogram and assorted sliders, all I get is a small dialogue box called RAW Adjustments which shows a thumbnail of the image at 5% size, an exposure compensation slider, a white balance drop-down list, and zoom and rotate buttons. Nothing like what I've seen on this site's Camera Raw 101 video, or in Scott Kelby's "The Photoshop Elements 3 Book for Digital Photographers".
Has anyone come across this problem?
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi,
Welcome to the Forums :)
This is caused by compatibility between Adobe Camera Raw and the Nikon software e.g. Nikon Capture.
These solutions should cure the problem, or you could just uninstall the Nikon software if you don't us it.

Mike,
Thanks so much for the info. That was exactly the problem. As soon as I moved the NEF plug-in files out of the PSE file formats folder the problem went away. Now I'm seeing the correct editor when I open up my NEF files in PSE.
So, for the record, here is what I did: There were two NEF plug-in files, named Nikon NEF Plugin.8BI and Nikon NEF Plugin LE.8BI. These two files live in a folder called C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 3.0\Plug-Ins\Editor Only\File Formats
I moved both files to a temp folder in case I need them in the future.
Once again, thanks so much for the help Mike.
All the best,
Marc :)

I have the same problem but the download from the camera to Elements shows no thumbnail just a torn graphic. Will this fix solve this problem also?

J.K. That will also fix your problem. I had the same thing myself and ARC now works perfectly. Good Luck.

Marc,
Just a little note that you might want to check out.
You mentioned updating to Camera Raw 3.3 in Elements 3.0. The most recent Camera Raw update is the 3.4 update and that works for Elements 3.0 as well as 4.0. Do not know if you need it, but it is there.
