OK - I took these on automatic last night. The Canadians skating at the Worlds photo was just snapped as I was examining the camera on the sofa. Be careful where you go in this world of digital - the background is pretty clear! Both photos taken in very low light. This is where this camera looks like it will improve on my F700. I have to read my manual because when I use the zoom it is pretty blurry in the viewfinder.
I am also wondering why a photo taken in my 700 the properties show the photo as 2832 x 2128 and in the 5200 is shows as 2592 x 1944. Is that not less pixels? I have a lot to learn and I am now going to load my bigger card and go our and see what I can do. Anyway the camera works and it certainly is not as frustrating as when I got my first camera last March.
Thanks for any comments.

Shari, which camera did you purchase?

Thanks.

Fuji S5200 - I have been very pleased with my pocket F700 but I wanted a bigger zoom and this is 10x. I also wanted a point and shoot and not have to worry about changing filters and all that entails. I have two weeks to try this camera out and if not pleased I can return it - so I am off this afternoon to start trying.

Shari,

It sounds like you may have the quality setting on low or medium in your camera. Most cameras allow you to change the quality of the images which in effect changes the size.

I like the photo of your dog. Very nice quality.

Have fun this weekend as you venture through your learning curve.

So far so good. :D :D

I suspect the size is a factory default (probably so you can get more pictures on a card). There will likely be a spot in the setup screen to make it large/fine, medium/fine or some such wording. Set it to the largest and best quality you can. This should give you the bigger file size and as such, more pixels to play with.

re;Zoom= blur

answer; push half way down on shutter button so that camera can focus.

Shari - glad to see you got it working. The reason you are seeing less pixels is that the S5200 is nominally a 5Mp camera while the F700 is nominally a 6Mp. So there will be less pixels but they should be better pixels :) . The 700 uses two sets of 3Mp sensors to widen the dynamic range and the resolution is more like a 3Mp camera than a 6Mp.

Make sure you have it set on 5Mp Fine - won't give you any more pixels but fine uses less JPEG compression so the files will be bigger and the quality higher.

Wow - thank you so much Tony. I also got on a Fuji website at Steve's Digicams but your explanation was better. And thank you Jodi - shows how little I know about cameras - except that they are fun! NOW - I am really off to shoot - the sun is out - yea.

Hi Jodi - I only used my camera on Saturday and I posted a couple under "Spring Flowers" I think. I also posted one in my gallery. It is another beautiful day here and I am just going to put in some freshly charged batteries and go out. I'm still at the auto stage with lots to learn. I do hope you are feeling better now. To me colds are one of the worst things - you feel so rotten but the mind still wants to do things. Take care.

Oh Shari that dafodil is really nice ! Looks like ya got yourself a real fine camera for the buck ! Take your time with it ...play, practise, learn...in that order :) We are finally having a little warm weather today after a long cold spell. I think spring may be coming soon. We don't have any sprouts yet but hopefully in the next few weeks I'll take pictures of green buds...well, maybe not ;) Can't wait for my tulips to sprout. Ya, I still feel like crap but I'm forcing myself to get up and about today. The sun and warmer weather is helping. Thanks.
