View Full Version : PSE 3 (Mac) and Metadata from Nikon D-70

In PSE 3 under Metedata there are options for setting the metadata you want to see including the ISO speed. I get everything I would normally want including shutter speed, aperture, focal length, program setting, if flash went off, etc., but the ISO speed never shows up even if it is set to show. I sometimes take pictures at events like horse jumping clinics, NCAA championships in big arenas, etc and I like to experiment with different settings, including the ISO speed. However, the ISO setting does not show up in PSE 3 so it is difficult, without keeping paper notes, to determine what my settings were and to evaluate what I want to do next time I shoot in a particular situation.
Is there a problem with the Nikon D-70 in sending the info to PSE 3 or is there something other that the metadata settings in PSE 3 that I need to mess with? Nothing in the D-70 manual gives me any information and there is nothing about this in PSE 3 help.
Any ideas? Thanks.....
Richard

Hi Richard ...
Oh that is strange .. certainly the Canon ISO speed shows up on mine. Are these photographs straight put of the camera or have you done some processing on them first ??
I'm not sure if there is a Mac user who has a Nikon but lets hope that there is .. failing that you could send me an image straight out of the camera and I'll check it on my system :)

Wendy,
Here is an image loaded from my card reader right to my computer. I have renamed it and added some metadata info like author, etc. See what you can find.
Guess what? I tried and there is a limit of 39.1 KB for pictures on this forum and the smallest I could save for the web is 83 or something like that. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions? Can I email it to you?
Thanks.

Hi Richard ...
You can use Pixentral to post images.
First resize your image using "save for web"
Set the longest side to 750 pixels
then adjust the quality slider until the image is around 150K.
and save it with a new name.
http://www.pixentral.com/index.php
Follow the instructions on the site and then when your image is uploaded copy the URL from just above the image and paste it into a message here :)
If you want me to take a look at the image then send me a pm and we will sort out the email :)

Richard
It is a problem with Elements.

Well I know the Windows software that you can use to get around this problem but not the OS X software .... Guess I will have to sell my iMac

Grant : *Your* iMac ?? ;)
Wendy : Save for Web strips a picture of its metadata. That's like when I save for web for my Pbase gallery, all EXIF information is lost (www.pbase.com/carbone/zezette for example)

Exactly ... Exactly like my new Honda Civic that I have managed to do wrestle off of Doreen for a sum total of 7 km ;)
Life is convoluted and so are my stories!

Hi Ray ...
The save for web instructions were for posting a screen shot of the metadata so it wouldn't matter about the metadata being stripped off :)

Wendy and Grant,
I am gathering that Elements 3 for the Mac does not bring in the ISO settings from my metadata in the Nikon. Is that correct? Is this something that Adobe will fix if we ever get Elements 4 for the Mac? This is a very critical bit of information that I would like to have and I can not find it in iPhoto either.
For the time being I will drop the issue but is there a way I can suggest to Adobe that this be fixed in the next version of Elements?
Thanks for the help...

Hi Richard ...
Looks like PSE3 is indeed stripping off the Metadata ... :( ..
By the way PSE4 for the Mac has already been released ... I am sure that someone on the forum has it so maybe they will be able to let us know if its OK in PSE4.
