I was sent a picture in an email (not as an attachment) and I am having a hard time copying into PSE or anywhere else for that matter. I tell it to save as a jpg, but it keeps saving it as something my computer says it cannot support.
Any suggestions? I printed it off and then scanned it, but the quality isn't really very good.
HELP!

Hi Colleen,
It's weird that the photo would save as something other than you are asking. Sometimes I find that I may have a certain type of file but my computer just doesn't know it. Try renaming the file and adding a jpeg extension. "newname.jpg"

Tried that! About 10 times. I have noticed that a few other times something shows up with the same little icon next to it and I cannot open it. I am not sure why this happens. I have tried copying it into a Word doc. and all I get is the text from the email. The pic doesn't even show up. The woman who took the picture doesn't even know how to burn a cd.......so, its not like I can ask her to do that....welll, actually I did, and that's when she got very nervous and said: Oh, I can't do that!. I don't want to be too intrusive, I was just hoping there was something I could do. I will keep trying....

Did you get my circle stuff? Have you tried it yet?

I will forward you the email......I think part of the problem is that it is not sent as an attachment....I could be wrong though.....I did notice that when I tried to copy it today it came up with the extension:
.jpg@01C64A00[1]
not just jpg..... I will forward it to you immediately! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

BJ,
You've got me curious. What was the issue with this file?

Norm:
I got an email that had the team picture within it...it was not an attachment. Everytime I tried to save it as a jpg and then open it, it said I didn't have a program that support that extension. I was able to do something and find that the extension was .jpg@01C64A00[1] No matter what I did I couldn't change it, yet when I saved it I saved it as just .jpg. When I right clicked on the picture my two options for saving were .jpg and bitmap. Either way I saved it, it came up with the extension above. I can send you the email if you want to see.... I sent it through email to BJ and she sent it back to me as a regular ole jpg! Go figure! I did send her another email to see exactly what she did, but she is out at the moment.
Let me know if you want me to forward it on to you.

Hi Colleen,
I received the photo. Thanks. I'm guessing it was inserted in the email as a bitmap image as opposed to a JPEG. That was the only option presented to me when I saved it from the email. A bitmap image can be opened in Elements using File>Open. From there I was able to save it as a JPEG. I'm not sure why you were presented with both a bitmap and a JPEG option when you initially tried to save it. Colleen, try opening it from the PSE Editor and you should be able to save it as a JPEG.

Norm:
I am not sure how to go about finding it since it is in an email.
C:>program files> outlookexpress ?????

Colleen,
I right click on the image in the email, select "save picture as" and then save it to your hard drive in the bitmap format. From there, open Editor and go File>Open, and then browse to the location that you saved it in. Then use File>Save as to convert it to a JPEG.

Norm:
I will try it one more time, but it doesn't seem to let me do it. I am going to email you as an attachment the way it shows up. See if you can make any sense of the extension. I tried deleting that one and saving as again, to no avail. But.....here goes!

Norm:
I tried to save as as bmp into a completely different file. The EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED! It has the exact same extension as the one I just emailed you. This is the strangest thing!

Ok, no one will believe this: I went into the editor and again tried to open it. No luck. As I was sitting here thinking of saying all kinds of nasty words a thought occured to me:" Hey, try to RENAME the file. so when the file showed up in the OPEN box, I right clicked, hit rename, then I typed:teamphoto.jpg hit enter and then went to Open it and it opened. I will have to remember to do that when confronted by this problem again.....which I really hope is never, because I WILL FORGET WHAT I DID!!!!
BJ, Norm.....I cannot thank you enough for all your time and effort and patience! Thanks!

Colleen,
My Hotmail email account will not allow me to open the attachment. I don't even get the option to save it. Probably because the extension is not recognized.
I forwarded it to a pop email account where the attachment showed up as an unrecognized file type. I right clicked the attachment, chose save as and removed all of the text in the file name beyond jpg and it did save as a JPEG file.
Outside of asking the person who sent it, I'm afraid that this just might remain, one of life's great mysteries. :)

Norm,
hmmmm, the mystery continues.nI was able to open and save through my hotmail account. It is strange that it comes through with the wierd extension with the @ sign. One of those computer mysteries that we don't really know how it works. Some days I just say....."because it does" instead of "why does it!"
