I have just got my Wacom tablet :) - still set it up though :D . My bundled software was PhotoImpact 10 SE and Corel Painter Essentials 2 (2 discs). The mouse is an optional extra - is it an advantage to the Wacom mouse or not?

Karen,
Congratulations :)
As for the mouse, since Day #1, it's been sitting in a drawer, somewhere... I don't use the Wacom for anything other then Photoshop and other graphics apps.

Karen / Ray, I'm hearing allot about the Wacom Tablet, maybe dumb question, but what is it used for?

It's a tablet with a dedicated pen and mouse. Both pen and mouse are wireless. The tablet reads the pressure level (512) from the pencil, making it more natural to draw or make complex selections.

Karen congratulations. You are going to just love it. My mouse also collects just. I have my regular mouse set up beside the tablet and use it when necessary.
One word of caution. DO NOT have the mouse and the pen on the pad at the same time or it won't work! This has caught up many people.
And Ray thanks for all your help last night. After our morning walk I intend to sign up for Lynda.com lessons.

Wacom mouse = paperweight.
Wacom Pen and tablet = "crack" for digital photographers.

Great news Karen, you'll love it once you get the hang of it. Like everyone else I never use the mouse.

When I got my tablet I didn't choose to get the Wacom mouse......I've just got the regular mouse set up side by side with the tablet.

I never use my Wacom mouse, but it's nice to know I have a back up if my wireless, optical mouse ever malfunctions. You'll love the tablet when you get accustomed to it. It's the best accessory I ever purchased :)

I'm with Joe. Sometimes the batteries go on my wireless mouse, and it's good to have a close backup to use if spares aren't around. Other than that....

Well I chose a 'wired' mouse because I have little kids....anyone who has kids knows that things vanish into thin air and kids have no clue what you are talking about when you ask them where something is......anyways, and it's a Logitech so I don't suspect I'll be blowing the dust off the Wacom mouse anytime soon :)

Well I dabbled with the Wacom Mouse a little bit - but much prefer my 7-button Optical mouse for most of my computing needs.

I'm with Joe on this one ... its a good backup for the wireless mouse ..
In fact when the batteries go in the wireless mouse I use the wacom one to finish off what I am doing ...:)

Yes, there is a separate program to allow you to write in e-mails and word.
It came with graphire 4, but I never installed it.

Are tablets worth it? Most definately. I wouldn't be without mine. It's terrific for making selections, drawing, painting. They are pressure sensitive so you can make your brushes act according to the pressure you put on the tablet.
I didn't install that other program because I have no need to 'write' in my e-mails or in word. I use the tablet for elements as well as my painter program and corel draw. Life is much easier using a pen rather than a mouse.

Hello Everyone!
Hope you all dont mind if I add a word or two. My IT Manager was trying to explane to me,He stated that I must get Cintiq 21UX he rambled on for about Twenty minutes or so about how good it is. And then he showed me how well it works.
At first I asked him what was he thinking marking on the computer! He turned and look at me as if I lost my mind! While rolling his eyes at me. I do belive I am sold on that one.

The price yes I did see the price. With the amount of papers I have to put my name on during the month the price for that item is very low. Please dont take that I am boasting or anything like that.
It is my new found hobby and I busted my backside worked my fingers to the bone for many years.. I think im worth it.
